  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone found a solution to disabling the daytime running lights on the 2013 v6 model?
They will only turn off when the parking break is down while the car is running. I drive on a military installation daily and they are very blinding at the checkpoint.

This.

You'd think there would be a fuse you could pull or something. Especially with the DRLs just being the brights at half power. Is there a half power fuse one could pull?
Then it would only be the full power fuse when you want to use the lights for their intended purpose and off when they try to switch to half power drl mode.

In some cars you can click the parking brake down just enough to get the lights off but before the brake grabs. Not sure if that works on the Genesis.

I have disabled mine using a relay that triggers when the headlights are turned on. PS the high beams also work when flashing people because the low beams turn on as well. If you want more details feel free to ask.

Many of those guys WILL like you if you share more details, possibly DYI thread?

It's really annoying that DRL goes on when you start the car. I'd like to disable them as well.

Just keep the lights in manual on. The DRLs are off and the HIDs + eyebrows are constantly on. I keep mine like that all the time.

The OP mentions he doesn't want to blind people at his military base. HIDs would be worse than the DRLs even.

HIDs are projected and automatically leveled so there is no blinding going on unless the people are taking a nap on the ground.

Even with auto leveling they are still dazzlingly bright, its just their nature.

I sent you a pm.... but if you could post instructions on how you disbaled your DRL I'd appreciate it.

How blinding are the other 4,000 cars with DRLs that come through that checkpoint? ,-)

if anyone figures this out, I would love to know, I installed HIDs all around for my 2014 3.8 base and when the DRL is on, it strobes instead at half power... any ideas?

Per request, attached is my mod that disables the DRL's on 2009-2014 genesis when the low beams are off and enables the high beams when the low beams are on. Thanks.

The strobing is caused by the PWM signal that runs the DRL, I also ran into this issue when I installed my HID high beams. Doing the relay mod fixed my issue.

The only HIDs I've ever been blinded by are aftermarket. Perhaps my eyes are not very sensitive. I don't know. But I've seen some extremely - ridiculously bright HIDs installed on cars - but they're aftermarket. And I feel people often confuse these for being OEM...

Doing this also keeps the tail lights on all the time. IMO it looks kind of tacky having all the lights on all the time. When I bought the car I thought the eyebrows where the DRLs but learned soon after they were just LED accents. I have also been wanting a solution to disable the DRL but keep it working normally for high beam function.

BStarr119 - it would be great if you could mention what parts to buy, where to buy them and how to hook them up (pictures would really be helpful), for someone like me who don't understand electrical schematic diagrams. it's a pity that the car came with no option to turn these drl's off. Thanks!
