  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've read pages 5-24 and 5-25 of the owner's manual, but my question is, what exactly is the purpose of Auto Hold? When would this be something I'd want to use?

I think this is for when you are on a hill or something like that. You do not need to hold the break in when sitting idle... the car will not roll back. I don't have this option on the 09.

Thanks Ashdump. I guess I've always been okay with just keeping my foot on the brake. Not sure how often I'd use this feature.

Its a great feature in bumper to bumper traffic.....especially when you foot gets tired! I use it all the time. Just wish it would stay on all of the time Have to turn it on every time I shut the car off!

Had it on my Passat, never used it.
One question for those that have it:
Do your brake lights stay lit? I'd assume they do, but if not I'd be afraid of being rear-ended.

Because my 4.6 Tech is a 2009, I don't have the auto hold, however when I am waiting at a long red light, I tend to put the car in neutral (mostly to keep the transmission cooler) and if on level ground, I don't need to keep my foot on the brake.

Auto-Hold Braking is a great feature. I use it a lot during stop-and-go traffic.

When this feature is turned on (by pushing an on/off switch), the auto-hold light on the dashboard will lit up in white. When I am driving, it will stay in white. When I need to stop because of a red light or traffic jam, I press the break to slow down the car. And when the car is fully stopped, the auto-hold light will turn green then I can leave my foot off the brake paddle. When the traffic light turns green, I just press the gas paddle and the car will go again.

When is it time NOT to use auto-hold? When you need to use your brake to control you car to move forward inch by inch, e.g. in your garage or any parking space.

Being inquisitive I just had to try the Auto-Hold Braking function. It is a neat feature. And all brake lights come on as if your foot is on the brake when A-HB is engaged.

Will it Break my Brake?

My car has been bad lately, so I'm going to Paddle my Pedal.

(no offense, I often do the same thing <grin> - I have trouble with personal and personnel)

Does the Canadian 2015 Genesis 3.8 Technology get this feature?

Yeah I read it does, but I don't own one personally so just double check when you test drive the car (the button is to the left of the steering wheel usually). I have the feature in my 2012 and it's great. I think it was originally designed to keep cars from rolling back on hills while your foot moves from the brake to the gas pedal, but I use it all the time at stop lights and in traffic.

Yes, the brake lights stay lit.

I don't think it was designed for that purpose, as all Genesis are auto transmissions. On an incline, my car still rolls forward when taking my foot off the brake. The feature you are mentioning is more ideal for manual transmissions when going from brake to gas while modulating the clutch on an incline. My '11 TL had that feature and it worked entirely transparently, did not have a button to activate (because there is no reasonable reason to turn it off) and did not hold on declines. If I remember correctly, it would hold the brakes for 3-4 seconds before letting go (if you weren't already moving forward).

I use the feature in my '12 every time we pick up our granddaughter at school. Very low speed start and stop. Works great up hill or down.

lol I turn this on every time I start the car.
