  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you prefer the pre-2015 Genesis?

I like my 2012. I like the body style. The new ones are nice too, but I'm thinking the pre-2015 look is very nice, more distinctive and well-proportioned.

The 2015 model is rather bland.

Anyone feel the same way? Does this mean you'll try to find another pre-2015 Genesis before they all run out, or get up there in miles.

Klingon-Eclass >> Fusion-Elantra.

Honest opinion here: The Gen 1, to me, looks better on the outside. The Gen 2 looks better on the inside. The Gen 2, while I haven't driven one, unanimously drives better than the Gen 1.

And the Gen 1 audio system is better. :)

This. I would love the Gen 2 interior. Gen 1 sound system and exterior. and Gen 2 suspension/DRL's (white LED strips...not the stupid yellow lights)

I drove the '15. It has more bells and whistles, and the interior is nice. I prefer the gen 1 styling by far - it's very distinctive. The 15 is rather bland, and the grill is almost as unattractive as the Lexus "alien" grill.

I'm seldom in the car for more than 15-20 minutes at a time and mostly just on local roads, so audio and handling/performance really don't matter to me. I have no plans to replace my 2010.

I think the Gen 2 looks fantastic! Better than the Gen1. I never considered a Gen 1 Genisis. I would have bought the Equus if it looked better. I think it's hideous.

I've driven my brother's gen 1 and thought it drove fine and had good acceleration, but didn't like the interior. My Gen 2 Drives way better and has better acceleration and looks 100x better inside and out. I like the VIP Aggressive look of the gen 2

Now, i just wish it had the audio of the Gen1. My audio system makes me very sad. I listen to the radio in the morning and it doesn't even do HD radio. In my Lexus, it would sound flat, then after a second or two the HD radio symbol would come on and it sounded just as good as SirusXM. I wasn't that enthusiastic about the Mark Levenson in my lexus, but it was 10x better than my gen2 Genisis Lexicon.

+1
I test drove Gen 2 twice and indeed, it handles better than Gen 1.

I couldnt agree more. The Gen 2 took the Genesis from a trend setter to a follower. And they didnt even follow correctly. Many things were botched on the 2nd gen....

Interesting. Because the '15 engine is rated as less HP and I believe is slightly heavier. Both have the same transmission.

Unless your friend has a pre '12 Gen 1 (non-GDI engine and older 6 speed auto).

Yeah, his is an 2010 i believe. 290hp. How much hp did the '12+ have? (v6)

smooth acceleration, but not quite as good handling. This could be due to the age of the suspension and his high miles.

The '12 - '14 3.8 GDI makes 333hp.

I'm going to politely disagree and say that more exterior elements of Gen 1 are derived from other lux brands if that's what you mean by "follower".

Grill = Merc
Rear profile = 5 Series
Overall profile = Lexus with a smattering of Infinti G mixed in towards the front
Front minus the grill = Lexus

Altogether those derived features make for something pretty unique, but it's easy for even the casual observer to see the inspiration when sections are viewed in isolation.

I love my Gen 1 but I also love the Gen 2 a lot. That being said, I'm perfectly content with my Gen 1 and don't think it's outdated looking at all. The good thing about borrowing styling elements from the likes of BMW and Mercedes is that their designs tend to be timeless in many regards.

Very well said.

I like the look of the new genesis. The interior is beautiful and has more bells and whistles. I do prefer the looks of the old model, but my next car will most likely be a used Equus.

Seeing how much the Equus depreciates, in the next few years a 2015 will be very affordable!

It's down 23 horsepower and the V6 model apples-to-apples spec weighs about 300 pounds more than the Gen 1. In fact, the new V6 base model weighs more than the fully decked out Gen 1 R-Spec by almost 100 pounds.

What he's probably feeling is the better throttle response (a complaint about the Gen 1 from many on this board) and the re-tuning for a power curve that has more low end torque at the expense of top end HP.

These thoughts weren't very well laid out and hard to follow but allow me to clarify.

The gen 1 took a bunch of elements from other cars, improved them (better iDrive, better headlight design, better tail light design, larger interior, etc.) while the gen 2 took a shot at implementing features that other luxury brands all ready offered and did a B execution at it.

I don't mind the gen 2, don't get me wrong. I just think that the R&D team might have been asleep at the wheels for a little bit during its design phase. It could have been so much better but instead just tries to implement what others already do well.

Dumb example, but who on this green earth (mostly blue BTW) puts genesis wings on the front, wheels, and airbags and a STUPID FLYING H ON THE TRUNK??

/rant

I also will be looking into other brands when it comes time to change vehicles. Jaguar seems like a nice choice depending on if I still want a sedan.

Very easy answer. The marketing department.

^^^^

a big part of the appeal of the Gen 2 is that it had no sign of Hyundai on it. The dealer put the wings on the back for free!

The only Flying H is next to the VIN under the windshield.

This was already answered - his friend has a pre '12 Gen 1 (287hp and 6 speed).

I believe the '12 V6 was rated at 333hp. Same engine that was in my '11 Santa Fe Sport. Goes like a bat out of hell (given the lighter weight).
