  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The ultimate will play 720p video, but it's very picky about format when using the USB drive. It also has to be in park obviously.

Doesn't it also play DVD's? I haven't tried it yet.

Yes, it plays DVD's while in park - though the audio will still continue if you shift into drive. This is with the Ultimate system - not sure about the lower trim level systems?

14 speaker system does not play dvds..just checked

2015 Prestige package plays 1080p video as well as TV. Video stops when car is put in gear. You may also download the video to the Jukebox.

Same as 2009-2014 Genesis. Only the 17-speaker system plays DVD video or DVD-A audio (music recorded with discrete 5 or 7 channel surround sound tracks). The 14-speaker system synthesizes surround sound from regular stereo sources (as does the 17-speaker system since there is not much DVD-A recorded material available).

"Synthesizes surround sound" means that it creates rear channels by taking the front channel and introducing some delay, slight reverb, etc, to simulate the sound that would reach the ears of someone sitting in a concert hall, or other listening venue that is larger than a car. It also creates subwoofer and center channels from the stereo sources. This home theatre surround system electronics is the technology that Lexicon was known for before being purchased by Harman International.

Lexicon is best known to many for their pro music equipment. Their digital reverb products were in every serious musicians rack in the 90's and they used that experience to move in the pro-consumer surround processing market later.

The '12 Premium package (14 spkr) model plays DVDs in Park.

the 15 ultimate plays dvds and a bunch of video files. Ive thrown everything mp4 to mkv. all flawless. Also plays 720, 1080p like a champ.

I gotta say though, the experience seems odd. The sound is EPIC but the screen is small hahaha.

The movie surround sound off the stick is awesome.

(Half joking when I say this, but half not..) I wonder if it would be feasible to do a front windshield or moonroof projection. And yes, this would only work while the car is stopped and one might not think it useful, but I was bored out of my mind for an hour while literally parked on the interstate (due to an accident). I made a note to myself to grab a DVD and keep it in the car should it ever happen again.

I watched part of The Matrix in an airport parking lot while waiting for my wife's flight to arrive last week 😉. I wish it also played BluRay - but it doesn't!

Are you talking about a real DVD, or a movie file stored on a DVD data disk or CD data disk?

A real, round, DVD. What shape are your DVDs? The '12 Premium package (14-speaker) system plays DVDs, as no doubt do the '13 & '14.

All discs are round, but there are different types:
  • Data discs recorded on a DVD (or CD) that contain video files such as .mp4. These files can also be on a USB stick.
  • DVD discs that are recorded in a special DVD format with (potentially) surround sound audio (and also stereo audio tracks).

But if your Genesis Premium Package plays store-bought (or rented) DVD movies, then I was definitely wrong.

Thanks, I'm up to speed on the different types of DVD disks. It's no shame to be wrong sometimes. Yes, the 14 spkr system plays DVD movies. Evens ones from the library.
