  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Probably a heads up. I parked, left engine on and windows up, kept phone inside, got out to pay parking meter, and closed the doors. When I returned, the doors were locked! Seems like my dogs were excited and stepped on the interior door lock button. No surprise since they do that all of the time when I'm inside.

However, weird part is that I had the key fob on me....and still could not get in. Door handle button proximity button did not function. Key fob unlock button did not function. I could open the trunk by walking to the back and pressing the car trunk button (key fob trunk button and smart open did not function though). Because my phone was locked inside, I did not try any connected services remote stuff.

This situation raised a lot of questions for me with a few answered in my mind while I was waiting for help. Anyway, mainly a heads up to avoid this. Turn engine off? Keep window rolled down a bit. Don't make your passenger mad at you. Etc. Would like to hear if anyone has similar stories.

Woah...that is insane. If you have the key fob on you...it should have allowed you to unlock.

So how did you end up getting in? You cannot get in the car via the trunk since the seat latches are on the inside...right?

I believe it disables key fob functions when it assumes that you're still in the car. Maybe this is a measure to prevent accidental key fob button presses when sitting inside

Had the same thing happen a couple of years ago except with our cat locking the car. It makes sense to me now that its happened. Picture this - you're at a red light in a bad area of town with the doors locked. An unsavoury character approaches your door and presses the door unlock button and is able to open your door since the car can't tell if your key fob is on the inside or outside of the door. Bad things could result.
In my case, the cat was also able to step on the window lock button (unlocking the previously locked windows), then the window down button enough to press the unlock button (smart cat). I later learned the other option was to remove the plastic bit on the door handle which covers the doors key hole and use your physical key (stored in your proximity key) to gain access.
I believe this is a safety feature programmed into the car. There is no way for the car to distinguish the actual location of the proximity key. That being said, mine is a wallet key and I always remove my wallet/phone and place it in the door grab pocket. If I try and start the car before closing my door the car will not start and will display the message "key is not in vehicle". The proximity key system is sensitive enough to know that the key is not close enough to the interior of the car in that case. Once I close the door almost completely, it will recognize the key as being close enough and start.

I think that this is what it may come down to if you end up in a similar situation. Pop off the key cover on the driver's side door handle, and use the physical key from the fob to manually open the driver's side door.

Just reproduced this but let the drivers window opened. It happened just as the OP. I was unable to open the doors/trunk with my key fob but the trunk opened with my hands. The Genesis app did work unlocking the doors. I didn't try with the physical key on the door handle.

Been down this road with another vehicle and my dog, When the engine is running the fob is disabled. Exiting the car doesn’t changed that. The door lock buttons don’t work if the door is open, but once closed they can be engaged with or without the key present in the car.

The only way to get in at that point is using the physical key in the fob.

I’ve made it a habit to crack the window enough to be able to reach in and tip the lock button with my fingers, the manually lock by the door pull not the power button. My dog has a habit of standing on the door panels and hitting the buttons, I always leave the power windows on lock as well as she has figured out how to open the windows and exit the car.

I'm glad he didn't drive off, damn dogs!

Effffff, there is a physical key option. Dammit, lost some $$$ to a locksmith. I'm such a noob

yeah not in a very obvious place. there is also a key option for the trunk under the trunk lip. not sure if that would have helped in your situation or not, don't know if you can fold down the rear seats from in the trunk. I know my wife's Camry can from either inside the back seat or the trunk, not sure on the G70.
