If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Disappointed in Hyundai and the roadside service. I have a 2015 Genesis 3.8 which would not start after work. Called Hyundai Roadside service at 4:30 pm EST. Tow Truck didn't arrive until 9 pm EST. The dealer obtained a loaner vehicle for me, but didn't have anyone to pick me up, so I used LYFT to get a ride to the dealer. This morning no one from the dealership called me. I HAD TO CONTACT THEM! Hyundai is supposed to start a luxury brand called Genesis? Lol! They can't even take care of current Genesis customers!!
And I had similar experiences with the 2012 Genesis 3.8 Genesis that I previously owned. I would rather spend more money on a BMW, Audi or Mercedes than deal with subpar service from Hyundai and the dealership!

Sorry to hear man! What happened to it and why did it not start up after work?

Sounds like you had a really bad experience with the dealership. Can't believe it took that long to get a tow truck.

Hyundai, like virtually everyone else, outsources their roadside assistance. Most of the companies that provide that service are pretty bad. I had a flat tire with a Hertz rental car, and after waiting about 3 hours I gave up and changed the tire myself. It was difficult, because it was at night and I had no flashlight since it was not my car. I was out of town on business and could not call anyone that I knew.

Maybe firms like AAA are better, but I guess you have to pay for that.

This is my first new car, so I never used a car manufacturer's roadside assistance service, but from the experiences I had of using my insurance's road assistance, I say: "AAA all the way".

Find a different dealer? MOST DEFINITELY. However, I can tell you as a BMW owner that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Dealership service will vary, even with premium makes.

Sorry to hear about your trouble but dropping the entire brand because an outsourced tow truck guy was late is a bit extreme.

Did you ever figure out why the car would not start? Dead battery? It would be rare for a new car to not start if the battery and connections are good. If the battery was low you are better off seeing if someone at your work could have given you a jump, even the best roadside services can take 45 minutes to a hour.

I do wonder about those roadside assistance companies, and what happens when a Hyundai owner calls in, versus some other brands the also handle.

First of all, man what a crappy experience. I'd feel as angry and frustrated as you do. You probably don't want to hear this right now, but:

  • The Tow truck driver showing up that late is not really Hyundai's fault
  • The dealer not picking you up is on your crappy dealer
  • The dealership not calling you is again on the dealer
  • The car itself breaking down, that's all on Hyundai

The best thing you could do is let Hyundai Corporate know about the dealer's behavior so that it's factored in when/if they were to be considered as a Genesis dealer. You should also let them know about the tow-truck company that serviced you. You might also consider letting us know about the dealer so others know to avoid this dealer in the future. Finally, what was wrong with your car that it wouldn't start?

Best of luck.

What ended up being wrong with your car?

I dumped my 2015 Mercedes because the dealer messed up the engine during a piston replacement. Anyway, during all of the fixes my car wouldn't start (dealer failed to tighten the battery cables) when I was in a CVS parking lot. About 20 minutes later a service van from the Dealership showed up and fixed the problem...on a Sunday.

I guess I have to give Mercedes some credit.

I had one experience with Hyundai's roadside help. One evening when leaving work, it was raining so hard, I could not see well and drop the left rear wheel in the mud and became stuck. I press the button on the mirror and a very pleasant person answered. I explained my situation. She knew my name and the location of the car. She asked if I was safe. She told me a wrecker driver would call shortly. He did, but when I told him where I was located, he stated he was more than two hours away! At that point he seemed unhappy he had to drive so far. I was surprised when he showed up sooner than I would have expected. He studied the situation and told me this was more than a mere tow and would cost me $40.00 extra! Tired and dirty, I just wanted to get home. He wanted cash and only cash. All I had with me was my debit card. A nearby restaurant I frequent was still opened. I was hoping the manager, who always was pleasant to me, was still working. She was, and embarrassly I asked to borrow $40.00. She obliged! I walked back to my car in the hole and gave the guy the money. At this point he went to work. I was worried that he was going to mess up my brand-new car. Happily he was able to get my vehicle unstuck without damage. When I got home, I contacted Bluelink to confirm Roadside Assistance was free. The rep advised me that was the case. She apologized for the problem and two weeks later I received a check for $40. A happy ending.

Great story - started out like a Stephen King book - but a happy ending.

I guess you gotta know what button on the mirror to push!

My Genny gave a flashing CEL last week. Called roadside - CAA showed up and towed me 15 minutes later. I now have a rental from Hyundai, absolutely free. Issue being fixed under warranty (O2 sensor + oil control valve).

I've had bad experiences and good ones as well. Don't drop the brand based on this. Find a new dealership and take a deep breath. Everything will work out.

I wonder if Hyundai hires cheap towing services over perhaps BMW hiring companies that are more expensive but more reliable. I imagine it's possible. Waiting almost 5 hours is ridiculous. And like the other story contacting somebody 2 hours away from the stuck vehicle is also ridiculous...

I had to use the service for the same issue. I had a CAA truck on scene in 20 min. I can't say I could hope for better. And AAA / CAA is not a "cheap" service.

As far as I know there is no dedicated Hyundai Roadside service - they contract out individual calls to various other Roadside Assistance services based on the location of the call. No doubt there will be variability in quality of service in general and in the ability of a given provider to respond quickly if they are experiencing high service volume.

If you're "done with Hyundai" as a consequence of this variability you're going to be just as done with a whole bunch of other brands as well.

To the best of my knowledge roadside services for ALL car manufacturers are the same - for major highways they use (and MUST use) whoever has the franchise. Where there is no franchise issue, they use local services. But as far as I know, none of the car companies are in the towing business.

Hyundai Corporate is mailing me a $50 gift card. I had issues with the 2012 Genesis, so if Hyundai wants establish a luxury brand they have to provide optimal service!

Yes, I also mentioned above that it is contracted out.

My point is that if they have more calls than they can handle, and one is for Hyundai and other is for MB, BMW, etc, are they going to take them in order received, or are they going to take them in the order that they think they will cause them the least hassle if they show up late?

Also, even though it is free, I suspect that some of drivers get tips, and they probably know they are not likely to get as much of a tip from a Hyundai owner compared to some other brands.
