  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G80
on the 2018 G80, the black shiney "plastic" door pillar has a small scratch on it (don't know how it happened). I am agraid to use a compound on it.... does anyone have experience with trying to remove them?

Thanks for the tip.... I will check it out.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
You're welcome!

Did it work? I have a similar issue.

actually i haven't tried it because the car has been at the body shop (( a deer hit me - $7K damage - ouch!) and the body shop said they would try to get it out.

still no answer from the body shop..... hopefully an answer will come soon.

I don't know the part you're talking about, Don't own a G80, but a lot of these back areas on door pillars is actually a vinyl wrap, not paint. Using compound or polishes on vinyl is a bad idea...

The door pillars on the Genesis are plastic coated metal. You are correct that many on cheaper cars are a vinyl wrap but not the case on a Genesis. Plastic polish may work but don't apply too much pressure and be sure to use a quality micro fiber cloth to apply and buff or you will multiply the number of scratches

That's correct they are ABS plastic over metal. I've utilized the polish myself before and there is no danger of causing scratching, unless you go crazy with the polish or attempt to apply it with a polisher. Meguiars PlastX polish is designed specifically to remove scratches in all types of plastics. None of the door pillars on any Genesis are vinyl wrapped, so it's a moot point.

They are pretty easy to replace. When I bought mine new, there was a big chip in the edge, probably caused by a ring. They just popped it off and replaced it..

sorry, i just noticed that never reported back on the door pillar scratch. I used the Meguiers PlastiX. It removed 95% of it..... if you look real hard you can see what is left of the scratch, but it is barely noticeable now.
