  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

For the 8-speed transmission, how many quarts should I expect to replace for a drain and fill?

Daniel

Also, does that transmission have a filter that can be changed?

When replacing my tranny fluid + pan, my indy was able to drain just under 7qts of fluid.

The filter is attached to the pan, so you have to replace the pan if you want to replace the filter. Having said that, I was told replacing the tranny filter is unnecessary. Check Post #19:

I disagree about not changing the original transmission filter.

Transmission filters do become clogged over time and do reduce the flow rate of the transmission fluid pump that provide lubrication to the transmission. The original transmission filter is the most important to change for a long transmission life due to being full of fine break-in metals/clutch materials from when the transmission was new. However, a new replacement transmission filter/pan should be go for another 100k miles or more since most of the extra fine metals will be removed after the first filter change.

Who recommended that an original transmission filter should not be changed? Sound like they want you as a repeat customer in a few years.

I totally agree with you Carguy75. The dealer did my trans about 2 months ago. They did not replace the pan and filter assy? WTF When I paid for it I realized they did not do what I had asked them to do. Its whatever. That was at 34k , I will take it back at 44k and have them do it. I agree with you about the break- in material in the screen/filter being heavy with junk. Either way its $ well spent. Shifts nice and smoother now.👍
