Hey guys, I've had my last car (Toyota Avalon) for many years now and am looking to upgrade. The g70 sport sounds amazing but I haven't had a chance to drive one yet. I've read reviews saying the front door opening is small and the dimensions figures seem similar minus 2" of shoulder room.

How would you guys say this would be for large drivers?
 
I would agree the door opening is smaller than expected. A minor observation but not a deal breaker for me (5' 10", 190lbs). Can't comment on the seats, I have broad shoulders and never thought they were small. The car has a feature where when you open the door the seat slides back and the wheel raises up to give you more room. Not sure on which trims but the 3.3t sport for sure.
 
Old and feeble here, though not large (5'11", 190#). I selected my optimal G70 configuration, tried it out, and as soon as I was able to finally extricate myself from it I went for a G80 Sport.
 
There's a setting that needs to be changed so the seat slides all the way back when you're exiting the vehicle. Makes it much easier to get out if you're taller than 5'8

...but then I have to maneuver my ancient bod around the B pillar. Much easier in the G80, with more room and three position settings available for exit at shutdown.

The G70 has three positions at exit too but unfortunately what doesn't have is enough room.
 
a large guy may find the g70 cramped. i'm 6', 200lbs (fit) with decently broad shoulders and have no issue whatsoever, and i've heard of guys in the 6'2" to 6'3" range on this forum with no issues. if a guy is 6'8" and 350lbs, this probably isn't the car for them. but by this point in life they're used to that and have narrowed down their search to the crown vics and buick roadmasters of the world....
 
Yeah, it's not my size, which is average, but my age (pre-Boomer). It's only been the past two years or so that it's caught up with me. Two years ago I traded a beloved Gen Coupe V6 Ultimate, mt, for a G80 5.0 Ultimate. Kept it a year and never used it. Last week I sold my '05 TBird and bought this G80 when I couldn't hack the G70.

Only REAL way to to try it out for yourself.
I personally found getting in and out of the g70 somewhat less comfortable than in the larger vehicle I'm accustomed to driving (2015 G2). Not a real deal breaker if I were in the market, but at 6'4"(225), I did find the car's interior space much more confining—and thats in the FRONT seats. Back seats were an absolute no-go—especially for a long road trip.
I did ride in a friend's new 2019 Avalon and it was quite nice & roomy...
 
Lol guys, it’s a compact sports sedan that is lower than the BMW. Even the seating position is extremely low. I’m 5’8” and it’s at the lowest even for me just the way the driving position in this car is designed.
It is by default the second most uncomfortable car to get in and out after the Alfa.
Not meant for geriatrics and heavier folk!

That’s almost always been the case even with super cars though. Only the R8 accommodated taller drivers easily.
Min the case of the G70, if it didn’t have a sunroof, we’d gain some head room!

Agree with you 100%. Seats are very comfortable and diver space is not so bad, what is really uncomfortable to me is getting in and out of it the car because as you said the G70 has a very low ride. You nail it here.

Sounds like I need to look towards the G80 for sure! I thought about a Kia Stinger as well but it sounds very similar to the G70
 
I have usually adopted the entry technique of stepping into the car with my right leg while my left leg remains planted outside and bent slightly. As I bend my left leg further I duck under the top line and slide into the car and then pull my left leg in. This works less well with this this car than my other cars. In this car I face away from the car, heels toward the open door and drop my butt as if sitting and go straight to the seat. I then rotate my legs into the cockpit. This second technique is necessary in places where the door cannot open fully. Both techniques work depending on surroundings and other factors.

You will find your second technique will be a lot kinder to your hip and knee joints. The twisting of your leg will eventually catch up with you with the first technique. Of course depending on your age, that may be years away.

Broken foot recently and multiple twisted ankles over the years, I do the back in seating now too lol. I'm quite a big guy though, and anything normal sized people say is tight is disconcerting to say the least!
 
For me, climbing out is much more of a challenge than plopping in. I'm using arm strength, pulling myself out by gripping the steering wheel. Hope I can improve that by working on more leg strength.
The ordeal is what caused me to switch my purchase from G70 to G80 Sport.

It's definitely sounding like the G80 is the way to go. It's a shame they can't make a fun sportier luxury sedan with a roomy front without making the car substantially larger
 
I drove an Accord (midsize sedan) for a long while, and in comparison, the G70 front driver/passenger area is definitely... intimate. I wouldn't say it's small or tight, but it's enveloping.

The Stinger is definitely a lot better in front driver/passenger space, from when I tried it in a car show. The Stinger dimensions are almost exactly the same as FWD midsized sedans as well. I think it would be fine.
