Driver Seat discolored

I have a 2011 Genesis Sedan with the cashmere interior. The drivers seat has discolored in the hip area. (It looks dirty, but is actually stained). The dealer is having it redied tomorrow. They have indicated that wearing blue jeans will cause this. I have only worn blue jeans in the car a few times. Has anyone else with the cashmere interior experienced this problem?

Some members here have had issues and have been able to clean it with a good leather cleaning product like Lexol.

Confirms my suspicion of cashmere (or any light) interior, and why I chose black interior.

Been using this to clean my wife's blue jean stained cashmere seats.

Removes 95% of the stain.

Stoner Xenit Citrus Cleaner and Remover. About $6 a can. Same people that make the Invisible Glass cleaner.

Hi -

Brand new member, lurking, but couldn't help but post on this -

I had a similar problem on my champagne colored BMW seat, and I couldn't figure out what the problem was - a "hip" area stain!

I tried changing my coat, my jeans, EVERYTHING!!!!

I could NOT figure out what the stain was coming from.


I even had to recolor my seats, because it WAS NOT COMING OFF.
I tried every product I could, it would not come off. SO, as i mentioned, I had to recolor my seats, with a leather dye I found online.

It came out great!

Until the stain started again.

I could not believe it - different jacket, different pants - towels on the seats..what was it!!!????

Until it hit me. MY BELT.

My thick black leather belt, the type you wear with jeans, was making the stain!! That explains the hip area!!!

It may be your belt! Needless to say, I threw that belt out, and the stains stopped. It was only that belt.

Give that a look - it was the culprit that ruined my seats -

As soon as I get a new car with leather seats I apply lexol leather treatment to protect the leather. After cleaning I re-apply the lexol. This process has kept all my leather car seats from getting stained.

I use Lexol too, and not only is a great product, it smells so good!

Not sure Lexol would have saved my seats from the bizarre belt staining, though - that was a freakish thing -

Happened to my Acura TL too. Taupe was the color. Couldn't get out. So I went black with the Genny.

Thanks Jerryss, that's exactly what it has to be. I wear a thick black leather belt. After the dealership redyes the seat I will have to figure out how to protect the seat or get a new belt.

Not to turn this into a fashion thread, but, yeah, the belt that was the culprit was a thick, "uncoated" leather belt, not the "Shiny" kind you would wear with dress pants, but more a "natural feeling" black 2 inch leather belt - the dye must escape from it, on this particular belt -

I am just glad I could contribute, because for MONTHS I could not figure what was doing it - very frustrating!

This isn't why I joined the Forum, my major gripe is the navigation and bluetooth electronics, but I too experienced the stained driver seat phenomenum. Though mine was not confined to the hip area. I also experienced staining in the lower leg region and mid back area. Yes I do occasionally wear jeans, and yes I do have a couple of broad western style belts.

Now the BIG question to those of you who had the dealer re-dye your seat. Did the dealer pay for it?

i have black stains all along the driver seat bottom and i am convinced they are coming from the bottom.. i had it redyed and they came back.. i have the light interior...there is no way i could have caused all those stains.....

I’m an Australian Genesis 2015 owner with a blue external and beige interior. Yes, I found the seats dirtied fairly easily but solved it eventually by getting custom made lambswool full front seat covers. Look great, fantastic in any weather and seat staining solved!
