If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Gang

I apologize if this is a duplicate question. I searched quite a few threads but didn't find my exact question/concern. I recently purchased a pre-owned 2015 3.8 AWD Genesis Sedan. WOW what a car. it has exceeded my expectations in every respect except for one. I cannot get the driver side power seat to tilt forward enough to be comfortable on long rides. I have called two dealerships and they are telling me that its a design issue.....the seat is limited in its tilt due to proximity to the steering wheel and air bags. (The passenger side seat will tilt forward a few inches further than the dirvers side.)

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a fix? I hate the thought of having to use a pillow or some seat cover in this beautiful car, but I can already tell i am going to have neck issues on longer rides so am open to suggestions.

thanks!

First of all seems two separate dealerships have answered your question! But just being a devils advocate here, why when most recline their seats is yours needing the opposite? What are your dimensions, height, weight etc.

thanks for responding....I am afraid I do have the answer....its just strange to me as I have had 12 different cars throughout my life and have never had this issue.....size shouldnt be the problem ad I am pretty average size 5'11, 200lb, and a very active water-skier and barefooter. Again the strange thing is the passenger seat tilts forward a good 3 inches further. (But again no steering wheel on that side so maybe thats why.) i put a cyclindrial lumbar pillow in the middle of my back for a test tonight and that helped

Just found an old thread about the same issue called "Driver Seat Recline Issue" supposedly this could be the result of a seat programming issue. other members were able to get the dealer to "reprogram the seat" and if fixed the issue.

fingers crossed.

In the owners manual section 3-18 there is a procedure to reset the power seat in case it is malfunctioning. Might be worth a try.

Note also that the seat back tilts separately from the seat bottom. To tilt the seat bottom push the front or back of the seat height adjustment up or down.

I started another thread on this issue a while back on my 2015. The dealer can reset it, but that will not fix the problem. They had to remove the seat and replace the part that handles the recline.

I had this problem twice. The first time the dealership reprogrammed the seat. The second time, the dealership reprogrammed the seat a replace one of the seat modules. I haven't had the problem since.

An easy way to check this is to compare it to a vehicle on the dealer's lot. I have it easier since my neighbor has a Genesis and I compared mine to theirs.

Hi Garak,

Please refer to my post as below. I have experienced exactly this issue and now the dealership (I live in Australia) is saying no such issue has ever existed been reported (even though I’ve shared this post here with them)

Very grateful from members and/or group admin as regards what I may be able to do next in this very unsatisfactory situation.

With best regards,

Dave.

And here is my description as posted to our Genesis dealer .....

Hi Fabian,

How are you? Hope all is good!

Remember the drivers seat recline issues we discussed on my 2014 Genesis G80? We chatted about it first prior to the warranty period expiring.

The problem is becoming a real trouble. This because my wife needs to drive the car more these days and she simply cannot drive it without getting serious neck and back pains. It is basically making the car unusable for her.

I have looked at the seat and the level of forward recline that the drivers seat goes to and it is just a joke. Something is not right and needs to be looked at further and resolved by Hyundai on this car ASAP please.

Well - We checked the Genesis forums - And look at this that we found (I’ve screen-shotted them but you can see it on the web here:

.... and the response from Hyundai (despite my sharing this forum feed!)....

Hi Dave
I have heard back from Hyundai and the have confirmed what the forum have said and .... the technical guys I have spoken to are not aware of an update to change this feature.”

I mean .... What on earth to do with that?!?!!!

Lean the seat all the way back to the limit switch. This will reset the seat position to 0 so the computer knows where the seat is. There is no forward limit switch, the max forward is controlled by the computer and if you don't hit the rear limit switch it slowly looses its zero point.

Thank you so much!! I had the same problem, and it fixed it. I reclined seat as far as it would go. Then I would hit the recline switch to go back several more times. I could hear the motor engaging. When I reclined forward, I had full range!!

Holy smokes, me too! Actually didn't work the first time, but took it all the way back a second time and hit the switch another several times at full recline and then it came back all the way.

Now I can finally decide where I'm comfortable in this car!

What switch did you hit?

Sorry! I pressed the seatback adjust button in the 'recline' direction. Reclined it all the way and then hit the button in the recline direction another handful of times. You could hear it click, but not spin, since it was at the end of its travel. Just reclining it all the way and bringing it didn't actually reset its range, it seemed to need the extra few clicks.

Thanks, I really can't believe that worked so easily.
