Driver's seat leather and cushion problem

I have the same front and rear seat problem with my Genesis 2012 (4.6) The dealer sent a email to the Hyundai. They ask the dealers get a cost to Reupholster the seats I have 957 miles on the car.

No wet bathing suit here, nothing as far as conditioner or cleaner. This is a synthetic material and using leather conditioner IMO is as silly as washing your windows with toilet bowl cleaner. Don't get me wrong, I live in arizona where the temps reach over 120 degrees and the inside temps push 165 degrees. There is no question there needs to be a UV protectant but Lexol is not the answer for Pleather < not a typo

Only the portion where the butt sits might be analine leather as I've seen on other cars, but I don't know, as I've only test drove R-spec the past year or so and wasn't inspecting the leather.. your pics really tell a tale, I appreciate you sharing so I can be aware of it up front.

I do find that lexol conditioner makes my 1992 500e500 MB leather seats (true uncoated analine seats) become taught and add a nice feeling of rich suppleness. Considering it's nearly 23 year old stock leather from the good ol days of Mercedes (car was actually made in conjunction with Porsche) I'm probably seeing much more benefits in utilizing lexol cleaner/condition 3 to 4 times a year than most would on newer/treated leather.

I am a bit confused here:

From the spec sheet of my car, in the Technology Package list:

- Ultra-premium leather seating surfaces

I read that as genuine leather, not bonded leather or synthetic faux leather.

Now, the word SEATING calls my attention, after reading the previous posts. What about back rests? And head rests?

I see it is quite common in the US to have plastic surfaces in the sides.

What is factual in our cars?
Mine is a 2012 3.8 Tech+Premium packages.

The actual seating surfaces are leather; the sides are vinyl or whatever you want to call it. If you look and feel carefully, you will see an obvious difference in the grain pattern between the seating surfaces and the sides of the seats.

I'm using Leatherique on my seats and I wouldn't use anything else. The good thing about Leatherique is that there will be no residual build up like the cream conditioners cause; Leatherique leaves nothing behind except a natural, supple finish.

Received a call from the dealer yesterday telling me that Hyundai will be replacing all the seating surfaces on the seats front and rear. I went to the dealership anyway and there was a Black Spec 5 that just came back from the vendor who replaced the seating surfaces looks more solid and firm. The owner of the Spec 5 was not aware of the web site I ask him to join us we exchanged phone numbers so we can contact each other about the seats. If you problems or questions about your Genesis contact the support team at (800) 633-5151 they stayed on the dealerships behind ( a##) until notifiying me about my seats. I will let everybody know how it turns out.

First what you complain about are not problems they are items you don't like and should have checked before purchasing the car. I would have never bought this car if I had your complaints since the car is not malfunctioning but just does not have what you want or you don't like the way a feature works. Also any "soft" leather seat will have the same damage from your child car seat.

This is why i'm trading my genesis for an equus or a cadillac...I'm slowly getting disappointed at my genny...especially for the price i paid

Why r we staring at the dash for an hour, and the center console, and the brake caliper, and the console? Yes car seats will screw up your fabric or leather if you don't place a towel or similar on the seat first.

One thing that has always bugged me in the 2012 Genesis, is the fact that the buttons on the rear view mirror for the garage door opener, are not lit. At night you have to feel where the buttons are. Even my friends Sonata has the buttons lit!

Did you ever get the feeling that Hyundai rushed this car to production, without really thinking it through?

I don't feel that it was rushed, I just feel that Hyundai was/is still in the learning curve of producing large, RWD luxury sedans. For being a first generation vehicle, the Genesis is pretty damn good...not even Ford has something like it much to my chagrin. (I'm a Ford guy )

That's another thing....that our Gennys being more expensive and supposedly a luxury car...do not have the simple options like these where Sonatas, Azeras and other cars below the price of the Genny have them
