  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alright, guys and gals, let's see if anyone has any experience that might help me with my newest Genesis issue.

Yesterday I washed my 2015 5.0 Ultimate (the horror) and drove my wife to date night where everything functioned per usual. When we got home, I backed the car in the garage as normal (where I assume the mirrors both dipped like normal) got out without locking and closed the garage door (so mirrors aren't folded when the car is in the garage.) It was 65 degrees yesterday, and only got down to 43 last night, so the garage probably never dipped below 50.

Got in the car about an hour ago to come to work (my favorite on a Sunday when I'm supposed to have a salaried 9-5...) started up as normal but then got a warning to "Check BSD system" and the Outside temp display in the cluster was flashing "---." I pulled out of the garage closed the door with homelink (working fine) killed the car and restarted to see if that helped, to no avail. Then I noticed that on this sunny day the Driver's side mirror was still dimmed, while the other two mirrors were bright as they should be in the middle of the day. I then tried to power fold with the switch, and only the passenger mirror folded. Tried to adjust driver's mirror position, no dice. When I got to work, I got out of the car, mirror still dimmed even when the car is off, and when I hit the handle button to lock, the passenger mirror folded, driver mirror didn't move but the indicator light on the mirror actually did flash.

So the mirror is completely unresponsive, other than being stuck in the dimmed state, and the indicator light functioning normally.

I adjusted the driver's mirror position after washing (I guess I got a little aggressive and moved it while I washed it) and put it a little higher than it had been (I could swear it wasn't returning to the position I originally stored, but I couldn't be sure of that) so I even reset my memory position to save the new setting and hopefully fix that issue.

The hell is happening... Thoughts?

Did a bit of research and discovered that the ambient temp sensor is in the driver's side mirror. So all that makes sense to have happened together. Also was surprised to discover that each mirror is individually circuited through a separate fuse, so I checked the fuse, which wasn't blown and even swapped the right and left ones; the driver's side continued not to work and the passenger continued to work correctly...

You either got water in the internal connector (in the door) or you got a short in the harness inside the mirror hinge.

Thanks, Sub. I pulled the interior trim off and checked the connector inside the door and it seems dry and in perfect condition. I unplugged and reseated just to make sure. Best course of action to check for a short just to pull the whole mirror and start taking it apart or something else? I don't have a voltmeter or anything to really do any electrical diagnosis, figured if it came to that I'd have the dealer at least do the diagnosis on it. Hoping I don't have to shell out a grand for a new mirror on this 5 year old, 56k-mile babied princess... Doesn't bode well for the 3-4 more years I need to keep it...

Did you by chance move either the mirror itself or the entire assembly manually by hand when washing it? If so it may have affected the folding and tilting mechanism.

Yeah I did just a bit. Have done that on plenty of previous cars (I try not to make a habit of it but sometimes ya get just a little rough) though and never had issues. If anything I'd expect that to kill the motor adjustment and memory recall but not every electronic feature is the entire mirror including making it stuck in dimmed mode... And it worked correctly for at least 4-5hrs after I washed it, reset the mirror position and re-saved my memory setting.

Also I feel like if there was a short, surely it would have blown the 10A mirror fuse, but it was fine. Wonder is there's just a way to reset whatever modules control it. I tried disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes and nothing improved. Also noticed after I did that (but hadn't tried earlier today) the rear windows can't be controlled from the main switch, but work just fine from each window's own rear switch...

You may have a faulty door control module, or water in the connector to the DDM. It's built into the window switch controls. They're pretty tough, but maybe this one bit the dirt. Problem is, you need Hyundai GDS to diagnose it correctly.

Feel your pain, luckily when my passenger side mirror went on the fritz it was covered under the warranty.over a grand for a mirror makes one wish for the days when the mirrors were controlled by a simple little joystick. Lol.
