  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was admiring the lines of my R-Spec yesterday and focused on the "shark fin" on the back of the roof. Is that just for looks, or is there an antenna in it?

Blue link/gps type stuff I believe.

GPS, FM/AM, XM sat radio, etc. Same kind of ant. is on both my Mercedes.

I believe FM/AM is integrated into the rear window.

Yes, radio is in the glass...the fin is GPS/XM.

And heat-seeking police magnet.

I'm not too sure that any GPS is in it. The time that my GPS was off by a 1/4 mile, I was headed north. It the GPS antenna was in the fin, it should have had a good "look" at satellites.

There's also a large box over the review mirror on the windshield that must have some electronics in it. I figured that was where the GPS and other antenna's were probably at.

I think tech guy at the dealership told me that was rain sensor for wipers.

The fin definitely has XM antenna. And AM/FM antenna is in the rear windshield.

Rain sensor, LDWS, and possibly light sensor for automatic headlights.

Not 100% sure on a 2012+, but the box behind the rearview mirror is the sensor for the rain sensing wipers on the 2009-2011. The shark fin is XM and probably FM, but AM as menioned earlier is built into the rear glass.

The auto headlights sensors are located on the top of the dash board in the corners next to the windshield.
