  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bought my Genesis two weeks ago. Last night noticed a red light on the left top of the dash blinking. Had not noticed it before. It was just after I programmed a second garage door opener. Has been blinking ever since, but everything else is working the same, including the alarm activating and deactivating when locking and unlocking. Is possible it has been blinking since I bought the car, but hadn't noticed it. What is this blinking light?

Yea! I've been wondering about that too! Got my Genesis in February and can't find anything in the manual telling me what that light is! It's always blinking. Alarm on or off it blinks. Lights on, off, auto... it blinks. Can anybody tell us whats up?

I never really looked into it, but I thought it was to let someone know that the alarm was engaged. Guess not?....

It blinks to show you (or a thief) that the car alarm is armed and working.

On most cars this is an indicator of whether or not the alarm is armed but on the Genisis it is actual wired to flash all the time no mater what. It is a Auto light sensor & security indicator all in one. It gets its power from the Instrument Panel Module at all times. It is kinda like those signs you put in your yard if you have a security system just to let people know you have an alarm.

Ok i researched it a little more and I can't find any wiring diagrams for the LED. I can find wiring diagrams for the auto light sensor that is in the same housing as the LED but this has a 5 pin harness and I can't find where the two extra wired run I presume these are for the LED indicator.

I found this in the alarm section of the shop manual --> "LED is Blinking if IGN KEY OUT = TRUE, otherwise LED OFF "
But it dosen't say what LED and I thought I remember seeing this led flash even with the car running. Now I'm wondering if I lost my mind.

Meant to say "Can NOW sleep at night". But still thanks, Hytech.

In the olden days of the late 80s and 90s, I drove Mazda 929's and Mercedes E320's [two each]. I was always told by dealers, owner's manuals, etc. that the red blinking light was a warning to thieves that were they to remove the in-dash sound system from the car it would never play again. Perhaps our Genesis blinking red warns more than just that. Interesting question to which I thought I knew the answer, but this discussion gives me pause.

Thanks guys I'll try to drop in more but I have a new baby:) at home so I don't get online as much. I'm always a PM away.

OK, I know this thread has be idle for awhile, but here is what I have found.

The red LED light on my 2012 3.8 w/premium blinks whenever the car is turned off. It is not dependent on the car being locked. It is not dependent on the proximity of the key fob to the car. My light only stops blinking when I turn the car on.
