  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is there a way to bypass the security feature so I can play a video as I'm driving ?

I can't find it, but there was a post about 4-6 weeks ago where there is a company out there that does the override.

Cant wait to get one

Here's the post from another forum that mentions the unit that enables you to watch DVDs on the nav screen while driving:

http://www.hyundai-forums.com/t31218-genesis-dvd-now-works-while-driving-33.htm

Someone else has mentioned once that there was a non-hardware hack that his dealer showed him, but he didn't remember what it was. I'm hoping that someone will eventually share that info with us, since I'd much rather go that route...

This would be the first post here re a company that purports to provide an override. What we have beat to death here is the fact that this car is SOFTWARE controlled for all interlocks. There is no emergency brake trick, there is no cutting of wires or re-grounding one.

The only acceptable change for this car should be a software upgrade that changes an internal parameter which tells the screen the car is not in Park. No one will be able to program this change until such time as someone gets to see the code as it is currently running. Obviously, this change is not coming from Hyundai, as it is illegal in most states.

At the above site, I stopped reading when it got to the part about pulling the head unit out of the dash to add a "custom circuit board." A software change may come eventually, but it is not here yet.

I've been reading this thread with a degree of cynicism. Not being able to watch a DVD while you're driving is illegal in most states for a damned good reason - it's dangerous! We made using a non-handsfree cellphone illegal in California for safety reasons, and will make texting illegal next year. (There were existing laws covering driving while distracted, so these extra laws recognized the potential increasing hazard of new technology.)

So which part of "illegal" don't people understand? This isn't the same as going over the speed limit and using a radar detector to avoid a ticket - watching a DVD involves taking your eyes off the road where they should be! And I can't believe you'd never be distracted by a DVD being watched by a passenger.

I'm not trying to be a nanny here - I just think some things are the way they are for good, sensible safety reasons. Personally, I don't want to be hit by someone distracted by watching a DVD while they're driving.

There was also the thread where someone wanted to disable the driver's seat belt audible warning. That's their lookout - but this DVD disabler could well be mine!

Having a DVD player visible from the driver's seat is not illegal in Georgia.

I have little interest in watching a DVD while driving; my wife, however, would love to be able to finish up a DVD while she was a passenger on one of our trips.

And I assure you that having a DVD visible on the unit would be little more distracting than a GPS system's map display, which people often stare at intently while looking for their destination.

I'd love to find a way to enable the DVD player, but I won't pull out the head unit and install another piece of hardware to do it. Someone else said they they were shown a cheat that enabled the screen, but they didn't pay enough attention to remember how to activate it; should I discover that method, though, I'll share it with my wife and let her make our trips even more pleasant.

The real reason to do it is to play audio DVDs. You can play & select CDs, iPod, AUX, etc. DVDs offer far and away the best sound experience in the Lexicon system. Especially DTS tracks. Unless you memorize all the key strokes [which actually work while driving] you can't select tracks or go from one disk to another. The logic should be easy to enable menus, but blank the screen when 'play' is selected.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I haven't actually tried this, but the system continues to play the audio track when you're in Drive - just no picture, correct?

Correct. And the track up/down buttons on the wheel work. You're just flying blind.

I also would never watch a dvd while driving, thats just not smart. But as others have said if you are on a long road trip and your passengers want to watch a movie, it would be nice if they could do so. I have a kenwood DVD/navi unit in my GS and I am able to play DVDs and such while driving but I have still to this day not done so. But the fact that I can if we went on a long trip is nice to know.
