If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I store my favorite music and talking books on the hard file of my PC at home. I have no problem creating a CD in MP3 Format with many hundreds of songs on them, and getting it to work on my cars DVD player.

The problem arises when I tried to do the same thing using a DVD, instead of a CD. (The advantage of the DVD is that one single DVD can store my entire music collection, due to its greater density than a CD).

I'm using a reliable, high quality software program to rip music, copy files and create the DVD (Ashampoo Burning Studio), and am writing it to a Memorex DVD ("DVD+R").

I can't figure out why I'm getting the following error message from my Genesis's DVD "Error - Disk Type Not recognized."

Remember, the same process (recording MP3s) works fine when I use a CD in the car, but doesn't work when I use a DVD.

Any help or ideas would be welcome, but please don't tell me to use an IPOD, I know how to do that, but I want to do this using a DVD.

Thanks in advance for you thoughtful comments.

Could it be that it recognizes any DVD as a video so it won't play it when in motion? I am technologically challenged so I can't offer anything more than this. I put all my mp3 files on a flash drive and it works perfectly, saved and moved in Window 7 Media player. In any event I hope you can solve this.

Bocadave,

I'm NOT going to tell you to use an IPOD:D
But I'll say this...Don't buy Memorex (Sorry, they suck!)
Buy Verbatim DVD+R disc's
Then use "BurnAware Professional v2.5" to burn your DVD MP3

I have no problems with that combo in my Tech package.

But I'll be honest...since going the USB stick route, I only use the DVD palyer to play DVD-A audio ONLY.

Good luck and let me know if all is ok.

Send me a PM if you can't find the burning software...;)

Regards,

I can confirm burned Taiyo Yuden MP3 DVDs perform flawlessly in my Genesis DVD changer.

I will second that and only the Taiwan made ones, the Chinese made ones are as bad as the private label office supply versions. The ones to buy are the "Made in Taiwan" version. The package that says made in China are as bad as the private label office supply discs. I have burned probably 1500 and never had a bad one.

My MP3CD's work great. Perhaps the unit was not designed for the DVD, except for watching movies while parked.

Completely agree...Do not touch the made in China one's...

I have the non tech package 14 speaker audio system and it plays dvds (as long as I'm in park) and if I'm not in park, it plays the audio portion of the DVD.
Does this mean it'll play DVD mp3s just like the "tech" package unit???

thanks

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm still without a solution, but I appreciate that you took the time to give me your thoughts and ideas.

My best guess is that my 2010 Genesis is designed (somehow) not to play DVDs with MP3 files.

That seems d-u-m-b, but otherwise I just can't explain why my CD MP3s play just fine, and the DVD MP#s don't work.

Its a puzzlement.

BocaDave,

I have a 2010 (Tech Package) and it is currently loaded with MP3 DVDs and they all play as one would expect. However, with my previous '09 Genesis, they were trying to isolate a voice command problem and changed the DVD head unit. All of a sudden my DVDs were "unrecognized". Of course, the standard answer is that Hyundai doesn't support home grown DVDs (or CDs). In any event, they removed the "rebuilt" unit and replaced it with the old player and all was well. So, there is a chance that you have a bad head, but they may just say...too bad!

I have a 2011 (w/tech) and a DVD loaded with MP3s doesn't behave like a video DVD. It behaves the same as the USB port... where you can browse through different folders, set random plays per folder, etc. I prefer using a DVD over a USB because I am always afraid something is going to bump my USB drive and break off the little tab in the plug that exists within the armrest storage department. Also, the DVD seems to perform a little faster than the USB.

This surprises me as I thought only the other version played DVD, and you were limited to CD.
Does that work for anyone else here?

solution: copy everything you own to a solid state hard drive, after you have formatted it FAT32 keep ALL your music in your car!!

Just saw this post, but I'll reply anyway.

I own a 2009 Genesis with the Tech/Nav package. You can use a DVD to play your MP3 files. I use Verbatim 4.7gb DVD-R's. Generally speaking, this DVD will hold approximately 1,260 mp3 files burned as "DATA" using burning software that supports the UDF file system. The problem with the Hyundai DVD player is that it won't load 1,260 files. It only recognizes the "FIRST" 255 files on the DVD. So with the 6 DVD player in my system, I can have access to only 1,530 mp3 files, even though 6- 4.7 gb DVD's will hold approximately 7,560 files. Sorry for such a late posting. Hope this helps someone who has a 2009 Genesis.
