If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dynomax VT Mufflers Installed

Sounds a bit different than most videos I've heard. Is that because u got rid of your cats?

Think I'm gonna go with BStar's set up. Except I won't do custom x pipe. I'll delete the resonators. That video was awesome... Hopefully I'll get just about that same sound with stock piping.

Want it to sound quietish driving normal, and turn heads when I want to ;)

The X pipe really does change the sound so it won't be the same. X pipe vs H pipe is all personal preference.

I'm not certain but I believe the resonators on this car are located on the H pipe. The MSA X pipe deletes this:

Just to add what dmitriylm says, I believe the stock resonator is X not H, but I have no confirmation on that.

I went 2.5 piping, larger piping will usually give you a deeper growl, up to a point of course.

My system is 2.5 piping X pipe glass packs that act as resonators then magnaflow mufflers, this video is several months old and the car is very slightly louder now. Just to note I was not in an area I could to any burnouts, so I left esc on

That's pretty expensive for a piece of pipe. An exhaust shop could possible make one right?

You might be able to but at least in my area it will be tough to get it made for the same price utilizing an OEM style flange at the same quality. I think its worthwhile given you know it will fit properly and there is no experimentation going on.

For under 400 you get bolt-on cat deletes and an x-pipe that fits. Add 180 for the VTs. 580 for exhaust is DIRT CHEAP and you can install it at home. ;)

The exhaust on my coupe MSRP was near 1400. Titanium + 3"? Try 2 grand.

It's all relative!

Just left the shop for a quote. To keep stock piping and just install the mufflers will cost 200. To do custom work, like upgrade piping to 2.5, and putting in an x pipe will be 300, for stainless steal piping, over 300.

That sound responsible, or do I have to make few more trips for quotes. I thought it's a bit high

Not too high, depends on how much over $300 they want for Stainless.

Shop I went to is very good and really quite inexpensive and it cost just over $200 for everything. but I did not chose to do stainless at this time.

Old thread yes
Relevant info also yes so my turn :) to add my 2 cents

I just put on dynomax vt 17156 on the stock piping and it is simply great. Enough sound inside at startup and when coasting to a stop to know you have a V8 and then nothing different than stock during normal driving. Full throttle is another loud story from the outside!

Unless you really look hard from the ground up on the side you cant see any muffler. I did not paint them black either.

Based on a basic home scale...
Stock mufflers with about 1.5 ft pipe that they cutoff to add the 2.5 inch = 21 lbs
Dynomax VT = 10 lbs

I have a 2013 rspec sedan

Nice. I definitely have them next on my mod list.

I wonder if Dynomax is coming out with new VT models. Most retailers don't have 17155 or 17156 in stock.

I got mine off ebay... $45 shipped per muffler. Crazy cheap and new.
The 2.25 versions are MUCH more expensive
Send me a PM and I can send the seller info

Just ordered mine for $100 shipped for both.
Any chance you can post some pics under the car? Curious how they piped and mounted them.

Yes I will take some tomorrow and try to upload.
The one thing I have noticed is once the stock mufflers have the little flat piece near the end and with the new ones straight pipe, a lot more exhaust residue is sticking to the bumper.
Ideally have the shop try and put the stock ends on the new mufflers.

So I emailed Dynomax to find out why they are so cheap.
The entire VT line has been discontinued.
Get em while you can.

Well eBay vendor was a bust. Emailed me today and told me their inventory #s were off and they don't have any mufflers left. Bummer.

I had the VT mufflers installed with X pipe & drag resonators. Removed just them and replaced with pipes & tips. Want mine? $50 each.

VT discontinued because they are bogus!

waste of $ at any price

I have had the Dynomax on for just about 10 months and nearly 15000 miles. Sound great and no issues at all
This may or may not help or it just may be dumb but I do it anyway...I will spray some carb cleaner in the mufflers on the flap and clean off the massive amount of soot that this car craps out. It may help keep that spring working properly.
Who knows but I am super happy with mine

UPDATE
Howdy from Texas! so I put these mufflers on nearly 3 years ago.
one of them (the right one) crapped out the fiberglass when I was driving after 2 years. The "flap" is still working perfectly on both of them.
The left muffler I noticed had ZERO "soot" after a 700 mile drive on the bumper so I looked in and saw the fiberglass all jammed up on the end. I pulled it all out now both are basically fiberglass free.
The sound is now even better. still zero drone inside the cabin. 20191209_213740.webp20191209_213748.webp20191209_213904 (1).webp
I wanted to update everyone as any owner with the 5.0 MUST do something to add some sound to the exhaust.

I took a video for a startup sound but when I uploaded I got this error...

I am seeing these discontinued everywhere I look? Are they really gone or just went to a new part number?
