If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Early Owner Feedback

I'm currently in the deciding phase on whether or not to buy a G70. I've put down my deposit, and have been talking for a few days with DJ here in Edmonton. I know that there are a couple of owners that have had their cars for a short while now, and I'm curious how the cars have been. Does everything work as advertised? Any issues? Or conversely, is it even better now that you're finding any nice little surprises with the car?
The car is fantastic!!! I bought the 2.0T dynamic model in the us. Has every feature (cameras, headsup display, etc). I can tell you that the 2.0T is 200 lbs. lighter than the 3.3T and accelerates faster than my 3.6 G80. You don't need the 3.3T engine. Also, in the US, getting 27 mpg!!!

He's one of the early owners that has had the car for a while now!

Hey StuW, quick question. What made your decision to get the dynamic trim instead of the sport trim? The sport is only $1k more at that point and comes with a lot of features. Just wondering!

Yup. Turn off car and open the door. The seat slides back and steering wheel moves up. I believe there is 3 settings of how far everything moves. When getting in, simply sit, close the door and everything moves back to the last setting.

So my seat doesn't move back at all when I have it on 'extended'. I'd say there is about a foot of space between the rear seat and driver seat for my memory seat. Not sure if mine is not working properly or if the G70 has limited range as my old Hyundai Genesis went wayyyy back. The manual says it will not move back if the driver seat is too close to the rear. Does anyone know if the extended easy access feature moves the driver's seat all the way back to the maximum length possible? I can still move my seat manually more to the rear from my memory position

It won't. Mine used to move back until I adjusted it lower, further back and straight. So now it won't extend for easy access anymore probably because it is probably already in that range anyway!

Thanks for the insight, at first I thought it was broken since the steering wheel was moving and the bolsters but not the seat, until I realized I am not in the G80 anymore.

I confirmed with my GXM, and yes, unless you're about 5'2" and sit really far forward the seat easy access won't trigger - I assume to protect a potential back seat passenger. I've tested it, not sure where the threshold is, but where I have my seat normally it doesn't move for me.

I have tested it myself and can confirm. Seat does not move for me at all as I have it set back being 6'1". Steering wheel does go up/down.

My wife is 5'4"...and the seat does move forward/back for her.

Not sure where the threshold is either...but it is there...and I agree with it.

It used to move for me until I lowered and stretched back my seating position so my thighs were flat against the side bolsters and now it won't extend anymore. I'm only 5'8".

Just a quick report from my 1800km road trip (saskatoon-edmonton-banff-swift current-saskatoon).

Average fuel consumption was 9.6L/100km. 70% Highway in Smart mode. 91 octane.

Hit a snow storm leaving Banff and the car handled with confidence. Half the trip was bare roads and half had snow with fridgid temps.

We are very happy with the G70 but as expected it wasnt as comfortable as our 16' Genesis Sedan we traded in.

According to Google's calculator, 9.6L/100km = 24.5mpg.

Glad to hear it handled well in bad conditions!

Nice pic; the car looks great against that backdrop.

I assume that you initially had a G80, can you explain a bit more about the comfort differences?
Thanks

I think he was referring to the 2016 Genesis Sedan, so this one...

....which just so happens to be what the G80 is based on. So, yeah! You're exactly right - for all intents and purposes sounds like he came from a G80.

Anyway, sorry, I would also like to know about your thoughts on the differences in comfort and interior.

It's good to hear some opinions of comfort, but I would take comfort opinions with a grain of salt. It's pretty subjective just like whether you like the exterior look of car or not. For example, I have a neck injury and depending on the seat shape and design my comfort can be drastically different. I had a G80 for 2-3 weeks while I waited for my G70 to arrive. It was a great car, but I could not get comfortable at all. The seats are larger and the shape is different. No matter what positions, heights, lumbar, etc settings I changed I could not get comfortable. When my back and neck are in certain positions I get pressure on a specific spot of my neck that causes pain. No matter what I changed I could not find a suitable driving position for me. That doesn't mean the G80 is not comfortable. It just didn't work for me.

Where as the G70 fits like glove. It's a perfect fit for me and It's almost impossible for me to not find a comfortable position. I can adjust the back so it's very angled or almost straight up and down and I'm always comfortable it seems. Couches are no different. I go to someone's house and can't get comfortable on their couch for the same reasons.

The only thing I've noticed with the G70 is the back 5 inches or so of the seat itself (not the back) is a little firmer compared to what I had previously with my TLX. I haven't been on any long drives so I can't say if would be a problem or not. I doubt it as it's very minimal.

Agreed, highly subjective. I owned a 2015 genesis before my G70, and I like the seats way better on the latter, it fits my body shape better and the leather feels better to me (non nappa leather in both cases). The ride quality is hugely different. G80 is a luxo barge and G70 is a sports sedan and rides like one, the G80 is quieter and it is a really smooth ride. I wanted some extra spice in my daily without compromising comfort, and the G70 fits my bill perfectly.

Just for the record both cars are very comfortable that serve different styles of driving.

The main difference as mentioned above are the seats are wider and there is more arm room. This should be obvious. Little items like auto dimming side mirrors would have been appreciated at night where everyone seems to have their high beams on behind you in the prairies. I didn't notice this feature in the G70.

Overall the drive was comfortable after all that driving allowed me to fine tune my settings to fit my body. I'm 5'10 and fit nice inside the G70. It is just nice to have that extra leg and arm room on 9 hr driving days.

Nailed it. Exactly why i'm in a G70

Coming from a 207 inch long Jaguar XJL and downsizing to the 10" shorter (not to mention $30k cheaper) G80 Sport 3.3T, it's funny to hear someone refer to the G80 as a luxo barge. What would you call the G90 then, lol?

As for it being a barge (luxo or otherwise), I would suggest you drive a G80 Sport 3.3T rather than rely on your experience driving the 2015 Genesis.

I haven't driven the 3.3T sport and I know it's a nice car but no one calls it a sports sedan. Read all the reviews, they all call it a nice cruiser but it falls short on sport. The curb weight of 4500 lbs is just too heavy and feels like a barge, I don't think the 3.3T changes that. The G80/G90 are more similar to each other than the G80 being similar to the G70. The G80 is better at being a luxury cruiser than a sports sedan, nothing wrong with that.
