If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Early Owner Feedback

On the fuel consumption side, my first few days (last weekend) I averaged ~14l/100km but now driving to work (44km one way of mostly freeway) I have that number down to 10.9 for the tank.

That does remind me of another negative, mileage I don't really care about, but the tank size should be bigger. It seems like it will be around 400km city and 500km highway which is irritating as I put 6-700km a week on the car. I don't like the idea of gassing up every 4-5 days.

I agree -- I find the tank a little small.

Congratulations again on your beautiful new G70, Edmguy!

I'm currently in the deciding phase on whether or not to buy a G70. I've put down my deposit, and have been talking for a few days with DJ here in Edmonton. I know that there are a couple of owners that have had their cars for a short while now, and I'm curious how the cars have been. Does everything work as advertised? Any issues? Or conversely, is it even better now that you're finding any nice little surprises with the car?
I love my 2017 G70. Gas mileage aint great but handling, acceleration and comfort are. My only downside is this car looks like a luxury car and does not look like a fancy sports car.

Congratulations again on your beautiful new G70, Edmguy!

Thanks. You and Jen were big influences on me deciding to go with Genesis. While I loved the car, one of my biggest hesitations was the brand and dealer experience because of all the horrible things I have heard about Hyundai. Even the first time I walked into Southtown to see Jen and was attacked by a salesguy I wanted to leave. But she convinced me otherwise. And the car is pretty damn good too. (y)

Oh, and I hope you two are enjoying your track time!

I second that statement

That's an advantage to me. I'm no longer a young 20 something. Need a car that looks more adult.

I know what you mean. I'd be driving a Lamborghini but it just does not look right on me.

I was a little surprised at the original comment. I thought the intention was to be a slightly smaller, sporty version of a luxury car. I think the G70 fits it well and the Stinger is geared towards the younger crowd. Just my opinion, of course.

As an aside, if I did have a Lambo, I'd be eating all my meals from the drive through window. Once I got in it I don't think I'd be able to get out of it.

Yeah I agree, opinions can vary GREATLY especially when it comes to looks, me personally i think this looks extremely sporty but still has sophistication (hope i spelled that right lol) in person this car looks quite different than in pics i think it looks much lower and wider in person...

Not sure if this is the right thread, but does anyone feel that the tail lights feel a bit dated already? I feel that they could've done a lot more there. My 16 is350 tail lights look better than the g70.

Also, call me old school, I test drove one yesterday, couldn't get use to how I didn't need to shift the gear lever to the side to activate the paddles lol, and not a big fan of the e-brake button, I want the actual e-break lever there.

Not trying to bash it, and I do plan to lease one close to end of the year.

Yeah... everyone has their opinions, myself.. i realy like the tailights and brakelights i like the 3 different lights on the brakelights and i like the curved standard tailight but it is not as good as Audi of course which i think has the best tailights in the biz.

The rear of the G70 is not my fav but i looked at all the cars i could and none had everything i wanted so tailights were a bit of a write off but i have heard some say they love them

Agreed Audi probably has the best taillights out there. And while the G70 ones don't look bad, I get what you are saying @Gianttama they don't really stand out. I actually like that the paddles will just start working when you want them to, but I don't like how you put the car in park. First few times I was in the car I put it in reverse and then took my foot off the gas. Buddy of mine did the same thing in my car. The lever works similar to my last two BMW's but at least they had the park button on the level so it was convenient to push. This one still feels awkward after 700km.

E-brake - I hate levers unless it is a manual. But I unfortunately haven't owned one of those in a while. I like the space saving and clean look of the electronic ones.

So by the sounds of it the test drive wasn't enough to make you trade in from your IS? I drove the IS350 as well and I think it has an edge over the G70 with refinement and I liked the ride, but the control pad for the nav was 100% a deal breaker. Can't get used to it at all. Oh, and the power difference between the 3.3T in the G70 and the IS350 is huge. :)

Lol yeah i liked the is350 i looked at as well but the lack of power was initially the dealbreaker

I think a lot of people are going to have difficulty getting used to that shifter configuration. to be honest, it seems dangerous to me. People are going to think they're in Park when they're not and may even get confused between Drive and Reverse. Messing with a standard configuration seems like a bad idea to me. I foresee lots of unpleasant surprises before people (perhaps myself included if I get a G70) fully adapt to the shifter.

As for the brake, these truly have become parking brakes rather than emergency brakes. When there's a lever, it's completely mechanical and can be used in an emergency. Has anyone tried pushing the button in an emergency? I never have (thank goodness I haven't ever needed to) but don't know what would happen. There have been times in slippery conditions when I've actually liked being able to apply light braking to the rear wheels via the lever while having no braking on the fronts, so that I could retain steering control. If the back started to slip, I could ease off of the hand brake.

My last couple of cars have had the electric button for the parking brake and I've adapted. But I actually prefer the hand brake configuration. It simply allows for more options, like partial braking, that can sometimes be useful. Yes, the button reduces crowding and visual clutter. But operationally, I find it preferable. But it's not a big deal either way.

i hope the button breaking and the lack of lever/shifter is just a "getting used to it" thing. when i test drove it i had to check a couple of times to make sure the break is on/off before i park/move lol.

also, sometimes at a red light on a flat road, i like shift to neutral and put on the e-break so i don't have to step on break (yes yes i know it is probably not the safest thing to do).

i completely agree with Edmguy and Buckdes about the power between the IS and the G70. the almost instant power from the G vs the having to build up the revs on the IS feels very different. i wouldn't say the IS is a turd by any means but the G put more smile on me when it comes to launching for sure :p

i don't dislike the IS or love the G enough to justify the move to the G yet (keyword "yet"), hence i will probably wait until later in the year when/if there is a discount on lease rate or some kind of manufacturer discount to convince myself with the move, or maybe if my parents decide to just take my IS and get rid of their old toyota vena.

speaking to the "mouse" control knob in the IS, i actually LOVE it. i like how i can use one button control almost everything in the infotainment (lets not talk about the actual infotainment system itself, we can all agree that it is pretty hideous). that was actually something i didn't like about the G. if i was driving and need to change something on the G's infotainment, i would need to use the touch screen or press a physical button most of the time and have my eyes off the road for longer than i would need to with the IS's mouse right??? with the mouse, i could keep my eyes on the road most of the time because i have the menu memorized. i know most reviewers hated the mouse in the IS, i personally find it very useful.

On the G70 you can push the "auto hold" button and every time you come to a stop you can take your foot off the brake and it will hold the car in place. My old BMW had that as well and I think many new cars do.

Regarding the "mouse" to control the screen vs touch, I kind of get what you are saying as I came from a BMW and I really liked the I drive controller and never having to lift my hand/arm from the arm rest. But I found the mouse thing to be really difficult to place properly. And about 2 years ago I borrowed my buddies RX350 for a weekend and even after a couple of days I couldn't get used to that thing. He actually preferred the controller in my BMW after that weekend and he ended up trading his RX in on an X5.

But everyone gets used to something different. :)

At first i hated having to touch the screen as i loved having the idrive knob in my 335i but now i actually hardly use the touchscreen while driving as i use android auto and use my voice for my media and gps and love it. I also find myself changing my drive mode several times during my commute and the drive mode knob is perfecly placed and easy to use.

.

Not sure of the G70, but the G80 will go into Park automatically when the engine is shut down and door opened. When you do that and return tot he car, only the driver's door will be unlocked as the other unlock when you push the Park button. Not a big deal until you go to open the back door to get something.

Wanted to follow up after quite a bit of driving in the last few days. I managed 9L/KM after quite a bit of driving today.
