  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Eelectric Exhaust Cut Outs

Sjphill, u r in the loop. :-)

to the OP:

i looked thru your posts but could not find which company made the electric cutouts and x-pipes.

if i order these parts, do you think i can find some local shop that can install them?
I live in SoCal, inland empire.

I'm planning on a V8 purchase soon and was wondering if there's any issue with them hitting water? Our weather in FL during the summer months can be very unpredictable. Is all the wiring etc. well insulated...what if they happen to be open and you do hit standing water, any issues with potential backwash into the exhaust system? Thanks....your mod's to the car sound great !! :)

Splashes of water are not generally the problem. It's corrosion I'd worry about. The valves like to seize and many of the kits on the market come with very poor motors. Nearly 100% of electric cuts outs fail. I don't know anyone who has ever had one that hasn't.

Hey Driv200 - I sent you a PM but couldn't locate it in my sent items box so not sure if you received it.

I'm ready to pull the trigger and was wondering if you could help me with the logistics. Can you PM me with first steps?

Thanks,

-Adam

So I just realized that Abel Racing is only about 300 miles from where I live. It would probably be better to cruise down there with all of my parts after making an appt. to have them installed. I wonder if they could do CAI and EE cutouts with switch all in one day...

Driv - you should meet me there if it's not too far of a drive for you.

Hey guys, thanks for your interest and PM's. I'm building new systems and it's a big project to take on b/c of tolerance and the art of the custom welding. I can't speak for other potential builders/installers who could do this. I'm sure others could. My advantage is having a proven test fitted set up. Also, I am building the custom metal bracket for switch mount under drivers seat.

Corrosion:

6061 T6 billet aluminum housing
Doubled sealed housing
303 stainless steel butterfly
Stainless other bits

I think overtime, everything is at the mercy to mother nature.

Last chance

Count me in - This sounds great.
Add me to the list of purchasers.
Thanks!

Here you go. Thread gets buried if I don't check forum in awhile. Hope this helps.

Answered PM's: "Several looking for build thread"

Thats the mystery question. Dyno shows Zero bump in power with the dumps open. Zero loss too. The freedom you have with these electronic dumps is so versatile, you never run the dump fully open all the time......so the X-pipe is overkill and labor intensive. I find myself opening the exhaust when cool cars around, under bridges, parking garages, and occasional "drop the hammer for the heck of it" run..... Okay, and right after I drop off the wife at the mall.

Point is, when closed, the exhaust is back to stock and the X-pipe not needed. Your concern is the sound still going to ROCK without the bend forcing air through X-pipe...right?

The valve makes it a forced out....not passive....so I assume it will sound same. Want one? :)

I do and I don't. Because now, with the removal of the x-pipe, it just becomes a simple exhaust job. I would probably pay $100 for this job (not including the cut-outs) at my local shop.

I would assume now it's just cutting pipe to length, clamping or welding in the cutouts and bolting it up. But I am also concerned about sound/airflow out of the cutouts without the bend, yes.
