  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

Hey all - I just discovered there's a new (April 2025) Navigation Map and Software Update available for our vehicles. :)
Here are the links to the Canada and USA 'Genesis Navigation Update' websites that mention the availability of the new update:

Canada: April 2025 Navigation Map and Software Update > Notice | Official Genesis Navigation Update Website

USA: April 2025 Navigation Map and Software Update > Notice | Official Genesis Navigation Update Website
Further to my earlier post today... on downloading the update from the Canada site, and trying to install it into my eGV70, the Infotainment system warned me that the software version I was attempting to install was already installed in the car. I went through the entire process twice with the same result. My subsequent call to Genesis Canada 'Guest Services' uncovered the fact that the April 2025 navigation map update software for Canada (released on April 21, 2025) had some flaws in it and shouldn't have been released without further testing by the provider (i.e. mapnsoft). Apparently some map views aren't displaying properly in the new update. So while Genesis/mapnsoft work on correcting the latest navigation update for Canada, owners who try today to download the new April 2025 update will end up with either one of these two results:
1. If you specify that you want the update for a 2024 Electrified GV70, the Updater program will allow the download to proceed, but the content of the download will be last year's big update, which you've no doubt already downloaded and installed into your eGV70.
2. If you specify that you want the update for a 2025 Electrified GV70, the Updater program advises that the update is not currently available.
Genesis Canada advised that they'll contact me when the new update is "ready for primetime" and available to download.
That's the latest.

Thanks for the info. Why aren't we notified of Map Updates?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

You're welcome.
It would certainly be nice to be notified of map updates by Genesis. Instead we have to learn about new updates by 'word of mouth' or forums such as this one. Map updates for our cars are generally made available twice annually, typically April and October. I happened to check the Genesis Navigation Update website yesterday, since it's now the end of April and I was wondering whether a map update was available.
I suppose we can't really complain too much about not being notified, as the map updates from Genesis are free of charge. Some automotive manufacturers charge $200 or more for a navigation system map update.

I was notified by the vehicle last week that an OTA update was available, it downloaded in the background and completed installation while the vehicle was parked overnight. I just assumed that was happening for all US vehicles, can't speak for how updates are handled for vehicles outside the US.

I was notified of the update this morning after my drive to work

What year model do you have? I don't remember a map ever downloading itself, it was either the dealership or myself with a USB key (Mine is a 2023).

Since Tuesday it's back on summer wheels. Also had the roof plastic wrap replaced following an encounter with a flying 1/2" rock coming diagonally from another lane, which had damaged the wrap just above the windshield (At least it did its job, the paint is just fine!). 150$ isn't bad considering this could have cost me a windshield had the rock hit just below.

I have a 2024 GV70 EV.

Most (if not all) newer Genesis models built for the U.S. market have OTA software update capability, which includes OTA navigation map updates. Some newer Genesis models built for the Canadian market apparently have OTA software update capability, but in the 2 years I've owned my 2023 GV70 EV I've never witnessed an OTA software update occurring in my car. My local Genesis dealer advised that OTA navigation map updates are not available/do not occur on any Canadian market Genesis models, at least not yet.

The notification of a nav/map update will show up as "USB update" on your updates window. That is the cue that USB is how the nav/map update will be done...and that it will not be OTA.

I doubt that there will ever be an OTA nav/map update as the file is prohibitively huge for OTA. The USB nav/map update that you download and transfer to the car via USB-C also includes the infotainment update. When you install the USB update you will be asked (if you got the infotainment OTA) if you want to overwrite it, the OTA update, from the USB update.

If Hyundai had provided this simple message there would be a lot less confusion here about updates, OTA. etc.

"Dear Customer, Genesis is providing two updates this week. One update, for infotainment, will come OTA, automatically, unprompted. Another, for nav and map updates, will require downloading to USB-C (only) then installing via the USB-C port in the car. The nav/map update will not be OTA. This downloaded USB update suite includes the infotainment update, too."

Have to disagree that Genesis does not provide OTA nav/map updates at least in my particular case in the US.

See attached screenshot from my 2024 Electrified GV70. I received a pop-up notice that it was installing last week while I was driving, when I arrived home and checked on SW status it said that OTA download was complete and installation would take place in the background. The next day I checked status and the car showed the latest version of SW as being installed.

Also, checking the Genesis website, it clearly states the following under subscriptions: "MAP OTA, active until May 25, 2027". Looks like this is a paid subscription, we leased the car in May'2024, and it was included at N/C for the lease period (3 years). Maybe if you don't have a paid subscription you don't get the MAP OTA updates, but you can always download the update to a USB stick at no charge.

Has anyone else found the stock tires woefully insufficient for the power and weight at play here? I just got a set of Conti ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus on some lighter wheels and it feels like a whole different experience. Heck, even my Michelin Pilot Alpin SUV 5 winter tires are better than the Michelin Primacy Tour A/S.

The car is a LOT more sure footed now. I highly recommend a new set of rubber if you like confident handling.

Hi Guys. Long time lurker, first time poster... I got a GV70 Electrified about a year ago. I finally had a chance to get upgraded tires (Conti ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus) and I can't believe how much more competent my GV70 just became. The stock tires are honestly sorely insufficient for the amount of power and weight at play (as evidenced by the fact that they are also specced on the 1,000 lb lighter 4 cyl model. It's still not a sporty handler, but handling feels like a lot less of a chore now, and the improvements in wet handling make a huge difference in safety. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend. Oh, and also, the old Enkei wheels from my RDX actually fit and are about 11 lbs apiece lighter than stock. As a result I've been able to surpass 5km/kWh on the highway and 6km/kWh in the city! Yes... better handling and at least equal efficiency!

Next on the list of necessary improvements - the stereo... Gotta figure that one out next. That one looks like an uphill battle.

First major failure, in the steering system, left wheel is turned left while right wheel is straight, got on a tow truck... Which was a lot of fun with a crooked wheel, every few feet the car had to be jacked up, the wheel turned straight, put back down, and had to do this all over again when the wheel got crooked again.

They ordered a replacement tie rod, so in the meantime I'm having fun with a V-6 G70 (Much better than the I-4)... Just happy this happened in a Dollarama parking and not on the highway!

That's pretty scary. Do you know what caused the failure? Did you hit a curb or pothole or did it just happen on its own? If the tie rod end failed that should be a major concern that Genesis should address!

It looks like it failed on its own, I didn't hit anything but have been hearing and occasional "Toc!" when turning the wheel parked for some time. It was when I was leaving home and I just thought it was surface rust on the brakes because it happened right when I moved the car. Inside the tie rod the thread was used up or incomplete, they tried re-screwing it to get the car down the tow truck, but to no avail, they had to push on the wheel by hand to keep it straight as the car was rolling down.

They asked if I hit anything and I said no. It appears they basically never have to replace those tie rods, and it looks like a factory defect.

I then said I remember going over a rabbit once, but I doubt he could do that much damage, and he came from the other side. I just heard "Toc! Toc!" when he went under the car (Once per ear I guess...😉), and it came from the middle of the car, behind me. I looked in the mirror and never saw the poor fellow, who probably had taken a sprint already...

I mentioned that when I go to the cottage, the last 15 minutes of drive is in sand and gravel, that maybe this could have made it come loose, but they said it shouldn't. It could be a combination of all this though, added weight of the EV, gravel road vibrations and shorter thread than normal on that piece.

I'll be listening much more carefully to whatever sounds come from the steering from now on, that's for sure...!
