  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Electric GV70

On a different topic... to what State of Charge (SOC) are eGV70 owners on this forum typically charging their vehicles to? When I first took delivery of my eGV70 (May 2023) I was charging the vehicle to 90% SOC. Last month, after digesting several articles and videos on the topic, I decided to start charging the car to 80% SOC in the interest of long-term battery health. I have not seen/read any comment from Genesis regarding a recommended AC charge limit. What are your opinions in this matter?

I go to 80% unless heading on a long haul trip. 80% is plenty for me. I typically plug in once every 7-10 days in my garage. I’d rather be cautious than worry about another 85 km of charge. Everywhere you read differing opinions but it seems that the consensus is that 80% is better.

I don't strictly keep to a target of charging it to 80%, but it's usually around there that I stop charging. I have, on occasion, charged it fully to 100% though.

Same here, 80-90%, but tomorrow I'll need to ride more and have all the range available, so it will be 100% for that time. I read that roughly once a month a full 100% charge is recommended though.

So I went to a friend's mother's funeral today, and as it was going to be a short stint, I left the car running as my wife and daughter waited in it (Didn't want to propagate their cold), and I got the attached notification which nearly killed me (Pun intended)...

Someone really should tell Genesis that an electric car left running won't kill anyone! 😉

Genesis says:

"DID YOU KNOW?
Your Genesis warranty covers the batteries in our electric models for up to 8 years or 160'000 km, whichever comes first.³ The batteries are built to last so you can always recharge whenever you want, without worrying about a detrimental impact on the battery."

Nonetheless, I usually charge to 80%. After one year, 80% has met my needs with one exception and, fortunately, that was when I had an ICE loaner.

We had another instance of an atmospheric river yesterday, with non-stop torrential downpours affecting the Metro Vancouver area and I'm guessing parts of Washington State as well. I honestly do not know how you can see anything out back if you drive an SUV (electric or otherwise) if it doesn't have a rear wiper.

Your signature indicates that you have an "incoming" Matterhorn White GV70e. Does that mean you will have 3 or are you trading one off? You must really like the matte finish.

Yeah, I'm trading in the Uyuni White for the Matterhorn. I do rather like the matte finish, as you correctly surmised. It's just a wee bit more special and I know there's a smaller chance of running into the exact same colour combo out in the wild.

Congrats, looking forward to seeing pictures of the new ride! How is the resale value on a used Electrified GV70?

Thanks! Trade in value is an interesting topic. Let's just say they do right by me every single time.
I'm sure it will be easy for them to resell it considering it's a one year wait to get a brand new one!

So last week-end we got a foot of snow in one day here, then it got pretty cold after, so it was my first real winter experience not only with the GV70, but with an electric car.

Pros: That heat pump really warms up the cabin quickly, much more so than with a gas car which may take 10-15 minutes of running and warming up before any heat makes its way to the cabin. Also, you have none of that feeling where a transmission and differential is stuck in frozen oil and moving like a turtle while things warm up because, well, electric, you just press the On button and you're good to go.

Cons: Range was closer to 375km instead of the 415 I saw this summer (It could get colder to the point where range would hover around 300 later on this winter). For aerodynamic reasons, the wipers are well integrated under the hood, perhaps a little too much so. I just noticed you can barely lift them to bang them on the windshield when they are stuck in ice because you barely have an inch of travel before they stop on the hood. Popping the hood open only gives marginally more wiggle room, but not enough and it's a serious annoyance. As a result, the whole center passenger-side blade was useless at cleaning over a six inches wide stripe for a few days, until it got above freezing temperatures. I just hope that won't happen too often as winter is just beginning...

If you're occasionally parking your car outside in the winter, you might want to consider putting the wipers in the service position before leaving the car. That way, you can do what you need to do to get ice off of them when you are ready to drive again.

Thanks for the tip, will be useful this winter! 👍🏼

They should do you right based on how many Genesis you have purchased from them. Will this be your 6th Genesis purchase based on what you have currently and your previous models?
Will it be a 2024 or 2023? When is your expected delivery?
That was a good suggestion you made re: the windshield wipers. Now that winter is here I noticed something interesting. I was turning up the temperature gauge and found that the interior was not warming up. Then I discovered the separate "heat" switch beside the AC switch. Turned it on and the heat was immediate. Yes, it does heat up quickly.

It'll be another 2023. Matterhorn White with the white interior. Will most likely pick it up week after next, just in time for Christmas.

I thin k the separate switch reflects the fact that Genesis uses as heat pump ( (y) ) instead of resistance heating.

Driving to work this morning, man I love this EV!

Why don't you just get the car rapped to your preferred colour?

Hi Wrigbay, great question. I did consider that, but even if you could get the same satin effect with a wrap, I am already a little bored with the black interior on the current Uyuni White one we have. The white interior on the Makalu Gray, however, is holding up incredibly well after 7,000 km. So I'm getting the white interior on the Matterhorn White one. Should be taking delivery on Wednesday.
