  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anybody know the meaning of the "Genesis S380/S460" nomenclature? I understand BH380 is the KDM nomenclature used for the 3.8 Genesis, and I had thought about putting the BH380 emblem on my 3.8, but as somebody pointed out, it isn't really a BH380. I then had the thought of using an S380 emblem instead but found that S380 in Korea refers to the Azera.

I agree with flyboy2, but I too am curious why technically it's not a BH380, aside from the locale-specific non-critical equipment.

Put up whatever you want. There are no emblem police around--
True, but being a sensitive sort I didn't want to be scoffed at... :o I wonder where the US S380/S460 nomenclature comes from, and why S380 refers to Genesis in US but to Azera in KDM. Maybe I should just put up a Darwin fish with legs logo or something and call it a day.

According to the HMA website the Genesis is referred to as "Genesis(BH)". As far as the S380 and S460 I have a feeling that was just used as a title filler for the forum. If I'm wrong please advise.

Lexus makes a 4.6L engine and the car is a LS460. Does anyone know if the 460 means "centiliter"? Or is the Genesis not a 4.6L, 460?

As pointed out earlier, the Genesis Sedan is known as the BH inside of Hyundai (a two letter code that is assigned to all Hyundai vehicles). The 380 is the engine size. So if you want the Korean badging, then it would be BH380.

But once you take off the Hyundai badging and put on the wings, that is enough to satisfy most people.

Doing a Google search, I think the forum description here is the only place where the Genesis is referred to as S380 and S460. I agree that BH is the proper internal nomenclature.

I wouldn't be hung up with the possibility that you'd get scoffed at. Do what you'd like. There's so few Genesis in North America, and even fewer people who would recognize that the NA model isn't really an actual Korean BH380 (which would have slightly different options).

The only thing that might trip you up is if you badged as Genesis BH380 and then went to an independent mechanic or parts store. They might have a hard time figuring out you're driving a Hyundai Genesis sedan with a 3.8L engine.

And obviously, it would be more incorrect to rebadge with BH380 if you have a 4.6L ;)

OK maybe I'm reading to much into this, but why wouldn't the "380" be the same as the 3.8L?

You can buy car lettering online so if you wanted to retrofit your own would it be accurate if you had the V8 (4.6L) to use BH460?

380 refers to 3.8L; 460 to 4.6L. There was some discussion in another thread that a purist would quibble that "BH380" on a US Market 3.6 would not be accurate, because the BH360 designation used in KDM refers to a version of the 3.6 with different options than are available here, so technically a US market 3.6 is not really a BH380.

That said, as was mentioned above, there are no emblem police and we can display anything we want to on our cars. Maybe I'll just slap on a few random bumper stickers with text that would annoy conservatives.

Thanks for the explanation. So the KDM market has 2 different engines? 3.6 and 3.8? I understand putting a 360 on a USA 3.8 wouldn't make much sense.

I think it would look nice if the rear had the wing on the trunk along with BH460.

Just ordered my Gadsden and Culpepper license plate.

CAPITALISM IS BOSS!

I meant to say "U.S. market 3.8"

To clarify, the KDM models of the Genesis sedan are:
BH330 - 3.3L V6 (Lambda engine)
BH380 - 3.8L V6 (Lambda engine)
There is no 4.6 V8 (Tau engine) in Korea. Therefore there is no KDM badging for "BH460" -- that designation is probably used in documentation related to the North American model but not in exterior lettering.
