  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I do not think this question has been asked before. I have a 2015 5.0. I noticed that in the engine bay, the part that's closest to the driver, there are three modules covered by a plastic cover. Underneath the modules is a large well. This well contained a large amount of leaves and pine debris.

I was able to vacuum out a bunch of the leaves/pine straw, but there is still some crap down there. There is a similar well on the passenger side of the engine bay (close to the passenger seat.

My question is, do these wells have any kind of drain and has anybody had issues with water collecting in these spaces? I used to have a Passat with similar wells and they were notorious for collecting leaves and debris. Rainwater would collect in the wells because the drain line was plugged. Eventually the water would make its way through the vents and into the cabin, where it would destroy the TCM (conveniently mounted on the floor!

I recently vacuumed leaves and spiked seed balls out of the driver side compartment of my 2015 3.8 V6. Cannot see the bottom of this cavity or if water could collect in this area. I expect water would drain naturally.

Pictures of this area would be helpful!

OK, under the white dots in the attached pic.
I've gotten leaves and junk but never had a water buildup so it must drain somehow.

Both of those sides are body joints and they're open at the bottom. The wheel wells make visibility and cleaning difficult, but I generally just take a vacuum and an air nozzle and agitate the inside until I get no more debris back. If you really worry about cleaning, you can take the tires off, wheel well liners off and clean out. But they should be open at the front of the rocker/well interface- the liner may cover the opening though.
