  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Engine failure at 64,000 miles. Need some advice.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, "they" is the dealership, and I agree it's not worth $8,300 to replace with a used engine. I've had other issues unrelated to the engine and am not willing to put good money after bad. But we are looking around town to see if any independent mechanics can do a rebuild.
Found some used in the $3k range with 1 year warranty. Labor not included.

I am very surprised by an engine failure at 64K miles as well. I agree that I shouldn't expect much from Hyundai here, but I am hoping to at least speak with someone who will acknowledge that an engine failure really shouldn't happen at 64K. I was expecting the Genesis powertrain to be rock solid reliable and mine simply wasn't.

As far as maintenance is concerned, the oil was always changed using the factory spec oil and it was done regularly. I'm an old guy. I don't really ever even drive this car in a "spirited," fashion, much less over-rev it. Those are good questions to ask though.

Where would you source a junkyard engine? Any ideas where I might go in Minnesota for one? Thanks for the replies!
It's very rear for this type of thing to happen @64K miles There's maybe a possibility of abuse by the previous owner I have a friend who has 203K on his same exact vehicle runs like a champ

I was also told that it was "very rare" for an engine to fail at 70K like mine did. But I keep finding more rarities. And I am positive that neither the previous owner nor myself abused the car in any way. I am a 67 year-old who doesn't drag race with my V8 engine.

Wow. 4.6 engine failure at 64,000 miles. I have 169,000 on the same engine and it still runs perfect.
169,000 miles without a new timing belt? I think I've only had one ride that exceeded 50K and that was a '70 Volvo that had around 100k on it. The OP mentioned the words "timing chain". I'm under the impression that almost all or nearly all vehicles now use belts instead of chains. And I've read that anyone exceeding the recommend replacement mileage is playing Russian Roulette, chancing a hugh engine failure.

The V8 engines have a timing chain not a timing belt so are not a normal maintenance item.
