  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Engine falls flat on it's face

I take offense at your trivializing as just a few aggressive drivers who shouldn't be driving that way. Try pulling out into heavy rush-hour traffic, when there is no such thing as a big enough spot to slowly pull out without causing an issue. But you'd probably pull out anyhow, and have 5 cars behind you hitting the brakes, and almost causing an accident.

haha! I'm with you on this on!
Ernie must be one of those slowpoke drivers who doesnt give a flying H whats behind him :D

no offense, just saying what I see on the road every day ;)

Geez, guys, it's an 8 speed transmission in a luxury car. If it needs to shift down several gears, there are multiple clutches that need to release or clamp. That takes a little time.

If you getting ready to merge into heavy traffic, manually shift down several gears and be ready. If you were driving a manual transmission, you would shift before trying to sneak into a spot (or create one0.

The problem with manual downshifting is the computer has to agree with your request to go down a gear, so is unpredictable what gear you will wind up in, and manual downshifts tend to be abrupt, and hard on the tranmission. Not the most ideal of situations.

I dunno guys...I've never had a problem at all with hesitation when trying to accelerate, you must be doing it wrong!

OK...Sorry...I can't lie with a straight face. The slow response from the transmission has been my #1 complaint with the Genesis. I filled out a survey from Hyundai and went into detail about how the transmission was not in the same league as the rest of the car. Never heard anything from them.

It definitely isn't traction management or ESC that is causing it, it is just the logic they use in the shift management. If you really want to reveal how lousy it is, just nail the gas running about 20 mph, then just as it gets into its downshift routine, back completely out of the gas. It will downshift so hard you will think a truck has hit you from behind, even though you have had your foot off the gas for a full second. I've had this happen to me twice in the 30 something months I've owned my R-spec, and both times I thought the transmission was going to explode.

I've pretty much learned to live with it, using a combo of manual gear selection and/or a soothsayer/prophet to advise when to hit the gas.

I read elsewhere that you just got a new transmission, so hopefully your problem has been corrected. In my case, at least for 22,000 miles, this is the smoothest and quietest transmission I have ever owned. No, I didn't say it was perfect.

At steady/light throttle (like on an on-ramp), the shifts in my car aren't harsh and happen right now.

The problem with the upshifts that triggered a tranny replace are unrelated to the rolling launch hesitation issues. And yes, thanks, the new tranny completedly fixed (knock on wood) the upshift issues, smooth as silk now, just like when I bought it.

Still have the rolling launch hesitation. You definately have to plan for it.

In that situation, I agree, mine is likewise. However, with a rolling almost stop, then launch, like to fit through oncoming traffic to the other side (not that uncommon, and yield signs as opposed to stops are common around here), you still have the problem. I'd say the target speeds would be from about 5mph to 20mph. At a complete stop, or over say about 30mph, the Genny is much more composed about selecting the correct gear and getting on with it.

I have had this issue arise in my 2016 G80 and now in my 2018 G90 5.0
If I’m making a turn and it doesn’t matter if it’s left or right, going 5 mph or 10 mph and give it a little gas it’ll die. You have to leave off the gas and then feather it slowly, which can be a very big problem in case somebody’s coming at you.
I’ve also addressed this with Genesis with no reply

Has anyone who installed a Pedal Commander (or similar) had problems with this (either before or after installation)? Or tried taking out the "flapper valve" in the air filter box, to see if that changed anything?
