  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Location
Burnaby, BC - Canada
Just returned to Vancouver, BC after a trip to Winnipeg, MB.
Return trip from Wpg to North Dakota - to Shelby. MT via #2.
Visit to Glacier National Park to experience the 'Going to the Sun' highway.
Great Experience!!!
Then, Missoula to Coeur d'Alene, ID to Grand Coulee Dam and north to the Okanagan, BC - total trip: about 6,000 km.

Car behaves well at high speed and cornering.

Here is the BIG BEEF:
The Nav System has SERIOUS programming issues!
The system assumes that one always has a specific address to enter (starting with Street Name, etc > CITY comes last).
What if you simply want to get directions and distance calculations to another city (place)??? It is IMPOSSIBLE to simply enter a Destination CITY ... without having a specific Street Address (it CANNOT be by-passed).
That is a GLARING OVERSIGHT in programming!!!
> :( <
The Nav Sys programming is a bit convoluted in pursuing a few other simple commands (simply deleting the current destination selection).

I have used a number of Nav Systems in various vehicles (previously owned a Lexus LS430 ... also used Volvo in Europe, etc.) and never encountered such a ridiculous situation.

Hyundai better get going to get a REVISION out for the currently UNSATISFACTORILY programmed Nav System!

More to come ... that's my main complaint at this time (since I do considerable long distance travelling - not counting on going to Alabama right now).

How about the experience of others with the Equus Nav System???
Comments?

I know and I feel for you.:o

The Genessis uses the same interface.

They need to work hard on the software to make it more user friendly.

After 3 years using my Geny I found that the fastest way to plot a course to a place that I dont have a specific adress is to use the regular map with zoom out to find where you want to go. Zoom in to find the aprox area, and press the button to get the nav going. This way you completly bypass the adress entery.

The only drawback to this is that you need to know where you are going on the map.

Still, it works for me and I often use it this way.

Enjoy your Horse!

I'm pretty sure that you can enter the state and city before the street if you use voice commands, but I agree that you should be able to do this from the control panel as well.

Another thing I'd like to see is an easier way to force the nav to take a specified route segment. On a recent trip I had to enter a waypoint along a freeway I wanted to take in order to force it to follow that route. I was a bit surprised when it didn't complain that I didn't stop there!

With Blue Link being introduced, I wonder how much effort Hyundai is putting into improving the capabilities of their current nav systems. I don't know if Blue Link will have this capability, but it would be great to be able to map out a complete route on my computer and then send it to my car wirelessly.

My complaint would be getting map update seems to complicated.

As stated upthread, you can enter a destination by voice specifying a state/province first, then a city. If you know a road/street, even better but that comes last.

Another way, NOT using voice, is by using POI. Enter the state first, select POI, and choose a category such as Auotmotive/ "Hyundai Dealers". From that menu, select Set Destination for the city you want. Once you get to that city you can delete the destination or enter a new one.

Finally, you can use the crosshairs on the map to set a destination.

This is all in the DIS owners manual.

Good luck!

Almost forgot!!! I checked this morning and I HAVE ALABAMA!!! As I'm pretty sure every Genny and Equus driver does.

I agree, the nav system is incredibly horrid and convoluted It can't find known streets or restaurants and the interface stinks. Hyundai should buy a garmin and learn how it's done.

Nav is a huge disappointment! As mentioned, you cannot put city in first so you end up searching all similar streets in a state which introduces lots of errors. Yes, I guess I could learn the voice command and will but this has left my wife and I very disappointed. If you are not sure whether the street is N, S, E, W, or no direction, you have to guess and it could take 5 tries to find the right one. The input can end up being so convoluted we have to spend almost more time entering it than looking it up on a map. My portable Garmin is simple, effective, quick, intuitive, and just easy compared to this. I traded my Lexus 460LS for this car. I didn't love that system but it was a lot easier than this one.

Another rub is the screen is apparently polarized which competes with my sunglasses. When I glance at the screen, my head naturally tilts to the right and the screen is nearly unreadable until I straighten back up and look at it in a very awkward position.

C'mon Hyundai, get us an update and do it soon. Nav is a huge component of my driving need as a real estate agent as well as in general. I was so excited thinking this was going to be a step forward with all new technology, was I ever wrong!!!

I agree completely, it's the worst nav system out there. I'd love my Equus unconditionally save for the horrid nav system

I agree... I wish you could navigate to "City Center" of the new city your traveling to. At least you could have a decent starting place at your destination.

OK then. I thought I was the only one who didn't like the NAV system. My previous Genesis didn't have NAV when I purposefully bought the premium version because I've read that the cheap, constantly updated and improved aftermarket units will outperform our built ins. Apparently its true. My $150, Costco bought, Garmin rocks: constant updates, free traffic, portable (I love taking it inside and imputing destination and way points in the comfort of my home). It maybe a bit naive to think that Hyundai will provide a firmware/software update for this...the next generation might have an improvement but for those of us already owning the car FAT CHANCE.

Not sure about the tech pkg or Equus Nav, but the workaround I have used in the Genesis Premium Touch Nav is to do a POI search and you can choose to find POI using your current location or city center. Choose city center, and enter the city....then a category and then select the first POI that comes up in (they are in distance order by default) Not a fix, but a bit easier than guessing street names and addresses..:)

Yep, that works.

Sweet. That works for me.

I just use the cross hair method. It gets me to the city, with distance and time then I update as I get closer. Agree, Garmin is so much better!
