  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Whats up fellas,

Had something interesting happen last night. I hit a bump and my ESC light came on and stayed on. Not the ESC off light...just the ESC light. I am thinking its the one that tells you there is a malfunction? Does anyone have any experience with this light? It's new to me.

Also, I shut the car off, started it back up and the light went off and has stayed off now for about 30 miles....sooooooo that is that lol.

Let me know.

Thanks guys,

OFG

usually it blinks when the ESC is activated and this time it just got stuck....

Get a OBD2 reader (ebay) and you can check for codes until the 3rd restart (next time).

I have experienced something similar with regards to the ESC light.

I was "rocking" my car out of a rut of snow and ice. After about the third gear change, the ESC light came on. The light eventually went out after about 15 minutes of driving without losing traction.

A mechanic friend stated that most cars "auto-disable" the ESC when it is engaged under some conditions so that it doesn't cause harm to other parts of the car.

Koolhaas is basically right. You didn't give much detail, OneFun, but the stability control and traction control are closely linked. Hitting the bump may have caused a loss of traction for a split second, and/or jarred the 4-wheel yaw sensors out so that the system thought the wheels were out of sync. You might even have a clockspring or steering sensor issue. If so, these would switch the whole SC/TC system off all the time, thus the light being on. So, if the light goes off after a restart, the system has probably returned to normal, but but if not, the system is permanently disabled and you'll need to have it checked out.

Yea, so the light hasn't come back on. I put 600 miles on her this weekend and no ESC light. Sh!t must have been just jarred out of alignment for a moment.

Cool that she doesn't have to go to the dealer though lol

They'll sometimes do odd things like that ;) Glad it cleared up.

My ESC came on the dashboard after an oil change. The off button produces no change.Nothing noticeable in handling

You have some kind of fault in the electronic stability control system. If it were me, I’d definitely have the dealer look at it. If everything were ok it would have cleared itself. Since it doesn’t maybe the dealer can but more likely there is a defective part. It may handle ok now but may not be there when you really need it

Thanks mCC. Not sure I need a high repair bill at this time.I was hoping there was a general reset procedure as in my Dodge Laramie pickup. The engine light is also inexplicably on after the oil change.

Only thing you can try is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes (negative terminal) and see if they resets it. If not, off to the dealer.
