I really like the borla exhaust!
I tried to wait until I could offer a final opinion, but with time going by the way it is, I guess I'll comment a little bit right now:
I can't seem to keep my foot off the gas pedal when there is somone in front of me and begs to be passed up! At cruising speeds the car just takes off and sounds grrrreeat!
Also at cruising speeds, the exhaust note is still there, yet minimal, barely audible.
Cabin resonance:
cabin resonance............resonance..........
I've already coated the entire trunk with sound deadening material, I can provide the brand I used if asked, but I won't promote one product over another (again, unless asked)
I've removed the rear seat bottom and back and installed sound deadening material along those surfaces.
A friend sat in the back seat during a short jaunt, and mentioned that he actually felt vibrations coming up through the seat (after I put in the sound deadening material). I wonder why ....
My next little project would be to yank all seats out of the cabin, along with the carpet, and add sound deadening material along the floor (I have 50 sqft left)
I feel that the most aggressive note was used to design the exhaust for the Genesis.
I just read one of Alvin's messages in this thread and noted that Borla are very sensitive to cabin resonance; I think they missed the mark.
Having so much torque, I can accelerate and the tranny will not downshift, giving me acceleration at low rpms, fine with me, I can always downshift if I want to.
With all the sound deadening, especially around the speakers in back, the outside noise has been significantly reduced. Before I did the seat area, a friend mentioned that the exhaust was louder inside the cabin when I opened the trunk, makes sense, and tells me that it is helping.......
cabin resonance ...........
Highway cruising is great, almost no sound from the pipes.
cabin resonance ......
It gets pretty bad, and this is MY OPINION (although my sister was even more sensitive to it)
I know that an alternative is to downshift, but sometimes that would mean two gears in order to get a high enough rpm in order to get above the 2100 - 2200 rpm threshhold, above which the resonance seems to fade.
I really wanted to arrive at a complete solution before I provided my opinion.
Bottom line:
I love it! I can't wait to really take advantage of the extra breathing when ECU/TCU
mods are made available. Either way, this beast has incredible pickup, and sounds incredible when accelerating.
I struggle every time I get into the car and know that I will hear the cabin resonance.
Having ridden a bike all my life, I really like to hear the tranny downshift when slowing down, reminds me of riding! (I sold my bike to pay off the genesis - yes it's paid for!!!)
But the cabin resonance ...........
