Experience jumping from a 4.6 to a 5.0

It turns out I was wrong about this. It will still revert back to the cruise-control-set screen/panel, but it will stay on your selection a lot longer (making me think it was permanent; it isn't.)

First off, welcome to the 5.0 madness. ;)

If you notice, the center display will revert back to the cruise display only when a car ahead of you is detected. Otherwise it will stay in what ever display you selected. ;)

As for the R Spec wheels, I like them. Better looking than the 18" wheels in my opnion. But to each his own.

And for ECO mode, it's just an idiot light in this car that let's you know you are driving in a economic manner. On other Hyundais, it does change the shift points and fuel delivery. On the R Spec, it dosen't. I've tested it to see. :) And I do beleive the manual will confirm this. It's also been discussed in other threads on here.
 
Oh I forgot to add, they changed the parking brake "button" into a dashboard pull button. It probably makes no difference in the operation, but I prefer the "pull button".
 
This RSpec is my 3rd Genesis V8 ('09 & '11). I now have 28k miles on the RSpec, and had even more miles on previous Genesis. Gas mileage on each Genesis has improved as miles accumulate over 10K. I think the RSpec is very close in mileage to previous models.
I check highway gas mileage over a 40 mile trip I frequent. Right now under windless conditions my RSpec delivers about 30 mpg at a 70mph speed.
I think Hyundai has evolved its suspension over the years. For me, the RSpec has a pleasant, though firm, ride.
 
I have a non R Spec 5.0
How do you select the Sport Mode? I transiently see an "S" flash when shifting from D to Manual mode.
Does the R Spec have a Sport Mode? Salesman said to me that the transmissions in the R Spec and NRS 5.0 were "exactly the same".

Sport here means manual. Your salesman is correct. They are exactly the same, and unfortunately, that is the weakest part of the drivetrain. :rolleyes:

Same tranny, but different programming, which is why the R Spec gets 1 less MPG due to different shifting calibrations etc.

More differences I've noticed:
  • The car no longer starts in "hyper-idle" mode when cold. In the 4.6, I used to wait 30-40 seconds for it to come down from its "hyper-idle" mode (about 1200-1300rpm) on initial startup to a "still faster than when warm but not hyper" idle speed. Now it just starts off in "still faster than when warm but not hyper" idle speed. I wonder if that will address the "cold start shake" problems some 4.6 folks have had (that I never saw personally). I always suspected they had something to do with unburned fuel in the cylinders, but I'm probably way off base.
  • The parts content of the car has gone down from 80 percent Korean, 4 percent US/Canadian, to 78 Percent Korean and 1 percent US/Canadian. It would be interesting to know more detail on the content

The "hyper-idle" you describe is actually purposeful. It's a high idle mode with an intentional misfire which pre-heats the catalytic converters. Most cars employ this technology... I know my R-spec certainly does, and as well all of my previous late model cars purchased in the last 4 years (which have had manufacturing dates since 2000).

Hmm well we have the same engine. Perhaps it's just been so warm here (triple digits) or something, but I haven't seen it yet.
 
It turns out I was wrong; my car started in "hyper idle" mode this morning, stayed there for about 15 seconds, then kicked down.
Mine does this most mornings as well. I guess I hadn't noticed it as much in the cooler months when I first bought it.

I always wait for it to calm down before I back out of my garage. 10 seconds and it's done.
