  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All,

Can you share dealerships where HPP or GPP can be purchased at lowest cost possible? Any strategies you can share?

Hello All, Should I even consider extended warranty? I just purchased a 2017 with 50K miles on it! Should I be worried about long term reliability of genesis G80?

Any car with 50,000 miles may need at least minor wear stuff like serpentine belts, etc. Any car that ages is susceptible to parts wearing or breaking. Luxury cars have more electronics, motors, solenoids, relays, switches than can go bad. As long as you realize that and can tolerate the pain of some repairs, you are OK. The people that sell them tell you they are there to help you but the reality is, they make money from you. Some people make out with a few repairs, others never make a claim.

Extended warranty gives peace of mind and, for a price, reduces your exposure. Some are better than others so use care in choosing one and read the fine print. Most have a deductible for each use too. Over the years I've never bought extended warranties for anything and I'm ahead.

Do a search and you will find some threads where they have been discussed and that may help you decide.

Thanks for your great advice. So far this car has gotten regular oil change and tire rotations that's it. Dealer who serviced this car said nothing major is needed till 60K service and no issues with the car. BTW, would you know why car noise is too much! Is this because of tires or is this a problem with Genesis G80's

Probably tires. It is the quietest car I ever had. You can either change the tires or save money by cranking up the radio.

Warranty - There's two types:

Third party warranties that are usually from some shady company that will often fight you before they pay for anything. Lots of personal and anecdotal evidence out there.

Manufacture extended warranties will get you better coverage, less fighting with the dealer, and can actually be cheaper than the third party warranties from an outside company. Plenty of information online about this if you want to dig deeper.

Noise

My wife and I both have 2015 Hyundai Genesis's. Very, very similar to your '17 G80. Very quiet cars as Ed pointed out above. We use different tires on each car and mine is noticeably louder when it comes to road noise. If you're experiencing some type of wind noise then that's another matter. You shouldn't be but you can sometimes. There's usually a fix if you can locate wind noise. Tire noise is just the type of tire.

Thanks for your tips. I was leaning towards HPP/GPP than third party, your point helps make final decisions.

BTW, what kind of tire does your wife have on her Genesis! i do think this is more of a tire issue. Car is very quiet on concrete but on bit rough road/highway it rumbles with lots of cabin noise.

I appreciate your help and glad to see such a supportive forum helping fellow members.

Hers has Michelin Pilot A/S 3's.

Now, regardless of tires, any vehicle I've driven with low profile tires has always been louder on certain surfaces than others. Sometimes it's a very dramatic difference. Her car is no different. She has the 19" wheels.

Also, when it comes to the warranty, you might be in a little different situation that I was when I got mine.

I bought my car as a CPO, so I was eligible to get the Hyundai CPO Wrap coverage....because mine is technically a Hyundai since it's a 2015. My dealer only offered third party warranties. I call maybe 20 different Hyundai dealerships before I found one who would sell to me at a good price and without seeing the car. But again...mine is a Hyundai. Yours is a Genesis. In other words, I don't know what your options for a warranty are. Especially at 50K miles already. A lot of dealers wanted to see the car first. Not an option unless they were close. In the end I had to send my CPO checklist to a dealer to prove it was a legitimate Hyundai CPO vehicle. I don't even think Genesis has a CPO program but I could be wrong.

Hey Bourboncigars-- do you have the contact info and price of the dealer that you were able to get the wrap from? I'm in a similar situation and it would be great to purchase from them as well.. Thanks!

What I learnt from experience is for a second owner options to purchase extended warranty are: 4 year/48,000 miles, 5 year/60,000 and 6 year/75,000 miles with either $0 or $100 deductible. These miles start from the current miles on the odometer of the car and for the time period from the day of purchase. I found couple dealers in Vermont to be most reasonable and friendly to deal with.

My G80 came with two bald tires and 2 new Sailun sailun atrezzo SVA1. I ended up getting two more Sailun's for the front after lots of research. These tires are probably the cheapest ones you can find, but so far they are doing great. They are very very quiet and handle extremely very well. Not sure why these are so cheap other than the fact that they are made in China! No need to crank up volume for my Genesis:-) ..Thanks for your comments.
