  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Favorite car before your Genesis

I've had a few that I really liked and a few I really hated. Some of those I liked included:
1959 Plymouth Savoy (my first car that I bought for $225.00)
1959 Mercedes 220S
1963 Olds Starfire (had two of them)
1966 Pontiac Catalina Coupe
1966 GTO Tri Power
1968 GTO
1973 El Camino
1972 Vette 454
2000 Silverado
2001 GMC Yukon XL
2003 Mercedes E500 (til the warranty ran out)
2008 Vette and finally my
2009 Genesis

1972 Ford Maverick....nope
1972 Plymouth Duster......close 3rd
1977 Ford Mustang......crap
1981 Datsun 280Z.......crap
1983(?) Nissan 280zx.......close 2nd
19?? Dodge Aries (pre-K)..crap
1984 Ford Thunderbird.....meh
1987 BMW 528.....great kick around Germany car
1992 Dodge Caravan......perfect for what it is designed to be
1997 GMC Sierra........great truck
2001 Hyundai Sonata......Best car at the time that I owned it. Stolen, or I might still have it.
2005 Hyundai Santa Fe.......average
2008 Chrysler 300....maybe not the best car I ever owned, but the one I liked the most Destroyed by a cell-phone talking woman driver. Almost a murderer, in fact.
2009 Hyundai Sonata......very good car for the money
2009 Hyundai Genesis........worst car I ever owned
2011 Hyundai Genesis......If it performs as designed, may replace the 300 as my all time favorite. At least, until the next all time favorite.

Still my Z3 for driving around town. Then my Red 1965 Mustang for coolness. The Genesis is "THE" highway trip car. Reminds my wife and I of our 1993 Mazda 929 in the way it drives and rides and we loved that car, bought it new and kept it for 8 years.

My first Car was a 1969 Chevelle Malibu ( I found a similar picture on line ) . I was 19 years old and bought it then learned to drive it ! It was silver but I called it battle ship grey ! It came 60 inch wheels on mags. I know it had a three on the tree but don't remember what size engine - I believe it had a straight 6. I just loved that car ! Buying and Driving the Genesis gives me that same feeling . I guess it makes me want to dig up old pictures.

What are "60 inch wheels"? 60 inchers belong on trucks. :D

a 1977 Triumph Tr-7 convertible. I bought it restored and it ran great for 3 years before it caught fire on the highway... I loved that car...

Slow doesn't begin to explain how under powered that little 2 litre was..

It had "float bowl" carbs with these weird oil reserve things which controlled the needle movement, I had to fill them about every 75 miles... on a long trip I failed to fill up enough I guess. gas overfilled the bowls hit the exhaust manifold and the car went up..

Handled very well, nice room for me (6 foot) and was a drop top...

Those carbs were concentric carbs. Fill the oil reserve to keep the needles from hanging up. With concentric carbs, the throttle does not determine how much fuel/air goes into the engine, but the difference in air pressure between the upper portion of the carb (above the rubber bladder) and the lower portion of the carb. The vacume in the upper portion of the carb pulls the carb slide up. The carb needle is attached to the carb slide. The needle pulls out of the main jet, allowing fuel to enter the carb. Very popular system on performance cars. Your Triumph had SU (brand) Carbs. (I had a TR3A with the same carbs).

BTW, Concentric carbs are also called "Constant Velocity Carbs". Very popular on motorcycles.

Two favorates.

1. 1970 'Cuda 340. High performance small block engine. Faster than the 383 but not as fast as the other larger engines, however it would out handle the larger engines in the curves. Only a 16 gallon tank and on the road, only 16mpg, so I was always in gas stations.

2. 1973 Pontiac Grand Am. (the one with the soft nose and the louvers over the rear quarter windows). Did not have the high performance engine. "only" the 400 engine, but it never gave me problems and was a looker. Decent gas milage and a large tank.

Here's my list:
My first car was a 1973 Olds Cutlass purchased for $800
1981 Chevette
1981 Olds Cutlass
1982 Pontiac T1000
1973 Olds Cutlass (yep, did it again)
1986 Mazda RX-7
1987 Mazda 323
1990 RX-7 Turbo II (fast as heck)
1997 Nissan Maxima
1997 BMW 540i (still in the stable)
2010 Genesis (what can I say, certainly the best car)

hmmm its funny what you remember .I know the 60 was in the tire size some where ha ha . I tried looking up the size. I know the car sat higher in the back , had mag wheels with wide tires in the back with probably stock on the front. That might have been a 295/60-15 ? Now you have me curious and obsessing about the size of those tire's :) what do you think those were ?

They were 60s - but not 60 inches of course.

When I was in High School (late 70s) tires were narrow (70s and 80s), wide (60s) and wider (50s). My Duster had 60s in back, 70s in front. The numbering system was different - a /50/ series tire now is wider in comparison to its height, but is actually shorter than a /60/ series of the same width. I don't think the same was true of the older system. I did find a few notes with a google search.

Any one else out there want to chime in on your top ride before the Genesis.
Post a picture if you have one.
I loved my Chevelle Malibu I drove in the 70's and is the original post on this thread. I wish I still had that beast :)
