I'm considering buying a black on black, V6 Genesis...with the full tech package (Nav, Lexicon, etc.). It has 20,000 miles, one-owner, and they're asking $30,500. First off...is that a decent price?

Now my biggest questions...I'm impressed with how solid the car feels. The doors sound very solid when they close, the interior looks stunning, quiet and smooth ride, even the windows going up and down feel solid lol. I'm only concerned with how long this quality will actually LAST in the car. Will the leather start to deteriorate after just a few years? Will the dask start squeaking and creaking? Are the electrical issues with the Nav, backup cam, Lexicon systems REALLY widespread or just in a few models? If I buy this car, I just want the quality-feel it has now, to actually last for a long time.

Would you guys recommend this? Will the quality-feel last? Are the materials used by Hyundai of poor quality and that's why the cars are so cheap?

Thanks in advance for your replies! :)

FYI...I'm currently a 2002 Acura RL driver. The engine recently took a complete s--t on me, so I need something new.

I have the same vehicle. white on black though. I came from an Infiniti M35 Sport. I've found the quality fairly good! I haven't had any issues with the vehicle except the sound quality from the am/fm and XM radio isn't what I thought it would be. The CD and Aux in with ipod is good!

I feel the leather used is of good quality. You'll have to clean and condition it like any leather (Lexol).

as for price, it seems a slight bit high. I paid $34000 Canadian 2 months ago and the vehicle had 8000 km (5000 miles). Vehicles are often / almost always cheaper in the USA.

I've found it very good quality and I'm glad I bought it! It's a solid car.

Alex

Does the XM radio sound very noticeably worse than CDs and iPod? Is it unlistenable? How has your experience with the electronics been (Nav, backup cam, etc.)?

Does the Lexicon sound as incredible as I've heard?

the milage is a bit high for an 2011 (yearly average milage is approx 12-15k), so i would say the price is a liitle high considering the miles.

The Lexicon is definitely worth listening to.

Bring your best CD or DVD audio with you... then turn that puppy up!
I haven't had the need or use XM

Had a 2004 Acura and our 2011 Genesis 4.6 with tech has over 47,000 miles on it now and is a much, much better car than the Acura. The sound system in a 4.6 is one of the best in any automobile, bar none. I think the xm is fine, just a little thin which is true for all radio compared to using cd or high quality mp3 formats. Check consumer reports, Edmunds, and msn auto for reviews and reliablity data. Also check Road&track and the Car and Driver 100,000 mile long term test. Its an awsome car.

I only had my car for about 2 months now and I love it.
That price does seem little high but I paid 29k for my 2010 v6 gen w tech package with 9100 miles.

Seems like a lot of miles for a 2011. The Lexicon really shines when you provide it with good material. Find a good dvd-audio disc with a good surround mix, otherwise it's like buying an hdtv and playing VHS tapes on it.

Thanks a lot for the replies so far guys. I'm really thinking of taking the plunge and just buying it! :)

CORRECTION to my original post...the car has 14,152 miles on it. Sorry for the mix-up.

I'm still just a bit concerned with the reviews I've heard about the backup cam messing up, and Lexicon audio going in and out of functioning. Am I just blowing those reports out of proportion? Is that a rare occurrence?

Also, is paying the extra really worth it for the tech package? I've found a prior corporate lease Genesis, also 2011...with 20K miles for only $24,000. However, this car does not have the tech package. Is the standard audio system still decent? Is the non-tech package still a good car?

15 months and over 47,000 miles and no problem with sound system or backup camera. One thing that is very very important; read and study the car manual and the nav/dis manual, it will save you a lot of frustration. Too many people have problems that would not be problems if they had read the manuals.

It depends on how important the features that come with the tech package are to you. For me having the Lexicon and it's ability to play dvd-audio surround discs was a big seller.

I've got the in-between, 14 speaker Lexicon (non-tech, premium package) and it also sounds awesome. (Can't play DVD-A's though.) I'm not sure how good the base (non-Lexicon) audio system is.

Great car. Buy it. Offer them $28,500 and pay no more than $29,000.

I have a 2010 premium/nav without tech. I think it's a great car, and has fewer electronic features to worry about malfunctioning. The audio system is excellent, but since I very seldom listen to music (I'm an NPR guy) I could get along with 1 speaker, not to mention 14 or more...

Get the Tech package... @ 14K and 10K less... not bad... without the depreciation hit driving off the lot.

Agree with the other threads... give a counter offer.

Drive away with a chit-eating grin in the Genesis.

I think I'm going to offer them 27,500k and see where that goes. Then I can hopefully walk out the door for 28,500k. I'll also let them know I have a trade-in after they give me a price.

If I decide to NOT go with the Tech package (the 2011 I found for $24,000) could I upgrade the sound system to make it sound better, or is that bad idea? I'm not so much worried about the NAV as I am the sound system.

Thanks to everyone for their input! You all have made me decide to definitely buy a Genesis instead of an ACura:)

Nope, nada, no way... cost prohibitive.

Base system has 7 speakers.
Premium has 14 speakers
Technology has the Lexicon (7.1/DVD), 17 speakers, (plus a bunch of other features)
Detailed reviews everywhere:

Add the wiring harness, amp and head unit plus a week of dealer labor... over 5 figures in cost ($3,000 just for the head unit alone).

As previously mentioned ... the tech package is more value for the dollar.

I wouldn't want to upgrade the head unit to include NAV or anything, only the speakers. Would that really require a head unit upgrade?

I do not think any upgrade is possible without changing the car's computer system since everything is integrated. A very very expensive upgrade. Just buy what you want to start with.
