Despite the inflammatory nature oil change politics, I want to report my experience with my first oil change. Our Genesis was a lease vehicle and had all maintenance done by the dealership with the standard conventional oil. I noted on cold start up what I would term as lifter clatter. We made it a practice to wait for a minute or so after cold start up before putting any load on the engine, generally after about 90 seconds the noise would abate.
I had the dealership change the oil with Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil, 5w-30, it was my second choice as I couldn't find the highly touted Pennzoil Ultra Platinum at wally World, nor could they order it.
I was pleased to note that now on cold start up there is almost NO lifter clatter.
Given that my driving does not fall into the category to require 3500 mile oil changes I intend to change between 6-7k, having the dealer do the oil change with my oil, their filter. Jim price Hyundai of Charlottesville, VA only charges $12 to change the oil. Of course there is the whole issue of pressure to upsell on something. Which I have no problem dealing with as I am an old gearhead having grown up in the motor city street racing on Woodward Ave.
My purpose in having the dealer change the oil is to document in their system that it was changed and that the change was done with their filter.
