  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First decent road trip over the weekend - I drove from Cleveland Ohio to Monroe New Jersey. I filled up before I left, aired up my tires to 42PSI (Michelin fuel saver) and drove with the hills (slower on up, take advantage of down), kept speeds between 70 and 80 and averaged 35.3 MPG while driving 431 miles (I re-set the trip mileage gauge every time I fuel up). After the trip, I still had over 1/4 tank and miles to empty read 243. I'm certainly a happy camper. Thought I would share.

Amazing mileage out of a heavy full size sedan with 333 hp. I did a similar trip from MA to NJ and back to MA in one day. 460 miles. 29.2mpg, but I wasn't even trying to get good mileage. I hit the hammer a number of times merging onto various highways. Looked at the mpg when I got home and was pleasantly surprised.

My mpg readoud reads 9% high. You may want to do some manual calculations and compare to your readout.

I always find the car display to be about 10% off from manual calculations on mileage. The car display is too high.

Yeah, car's readout is a bit optimistic.

I hope you weren't gravity driving on the interstate...

Interesting, but why subject your comfort to 42 PSI? If you make this a habit, you'll spend more money replacing unevenly worn tires than savings on gas.

Interesting, but why subject yourself to 42 PSI?
I noticed that, too. It is concerning to inflate tires to 42 and then run them on a highway for hours on end as they are bound to increase PSI. How much depends on temperature during the trip.

Mine were inflated to 36 PSI (cold read).

Fuel Buddy is a useful app for tracking long-term mileage. My 2012 has averaged 19.7 MPG since I purchased it.

Yup. But I have found that the better the mileage, the higher the exaggeration. So I just drove 430 miles today in my 2010 V6, all on back roads. Speed mostly between 65 and 75 mph the whole trip, and my computer reported 28.5 mpg, by the far the best I ever have had on a one day trip. But my calculated mileage was 27 mpg for the tank (maybe 3% of the trip was city driving).

How can I complain, that is exactly the highway mileage advertised from my car. It took me 6 years to achieve it, yes, but I always drive 80 mph on Freeways, and my mileage at that speed is a consistent 25.1 mpg. So that extra 5 mph really matters when it comes to mileage.
