  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

first service is when?

I think it is Genesis' attempt at expanding their geographical marketplace since there are many areas without a dealer. People will not want to make a four hour round trip to get an oil change.

The way I read it, not Hyundai dealers will be able to perform the services, only those with the techs to do so.

The 2019s do not require synthetic either. While many dealers will use it, the specs are met by some synthetic blends.

That's correct.

Here in South Florida Genesis dealers are not using synthetic oil in our G70. If you want it you need to pay extra.
So apparently this is all over the place...probably to be expected. Both service managers in my 2 dealers state that per Genesis USA (2019+) have specific guidelines on fluids including oil. Oil being fully synthetic.

That is not necessarily true. Depending on what Genesis dealer you talk to...I think some are more on the ball and actually read their service bulletins. As I said...both my dealers seem to be really careful in what they are doing.

Also...you need to distinguish Hyundai dealers that never sold Genesis cars...and those that sold cars up to 2018 models. The latter usually still have Genesis techs on hand...so I would probably trust them.

But a Hyundai dealer that has never seen a Genesis car...no way.

Multiple dealers, calls to Genesis and the manual say otherwise. My guess is that they are interpreting the specs to be full synthetic because they don't have/use one of the few synthetic blends that meet the specs.

I called 5 different dealers, all of them told me that they can use any oil as far as it satisfy the manufacturer's requirements which in my case (3.3T) is ACEA A5.

@Beefer remember when I was getting my oil changed and you suggested I call Geneses Corporate? I did and they told me the same thing Dany and Turtle are saying. I think we can safely say that the official word from Genesis is they can use a synthetic blend

The manual states ACEA A5 oil. That is fully synthetic oil. If you can find a synthetic blend (meaning blend containing non-synthetic) that meets ACEA A5...please let me know. There are fully synthetic blends that meet ACEA A5...but they blend different synthetic technology.

Hey...I am just going by what my 2 service managers said and the manual. Honestly...I am leasing...so they can put canola oil in there if they want.

I am just saying for owners that really want to be careful about what goes in their cars.

So...the starting point is ACEA A5. If there are non-synthetic blends that meet that...cool :)

We have had this discussion a number of times and have already posted a couple of blends that meet the specs.

Your photos do not show anything to me.

Show me a blended oil that meets ACEA A5. I know the manual says if it is not available...you can use others. That's an obvious given.

Both of those show they are synthetic blends and meet the specs in the manual.

The only oil in your screen shot that mentions ACEA A5 is the 4th one from the left...and it is not available in the USA. And even in the UK it is fully synthetic...

So...still waiting for a link to a non-fully synthetic oil that meets ACEA A5.

It seems like you may not understand the ratings, ACEA is not going to be used as often in the US since that was set up by European manufactures. US and Japan uses the API/ILSAC ratings so the majority of oils will have that designation. As noted in the user manual, if ACEA A5 is not available then use G4 or above.

Both Quaker State and Castrol make a synthetic blend in 5W-30 that is GF-5.

^ you are missing the point entirely. I am going by what the manual recommends. If they don't have ACEA A5...then that means they are not meeting the BEST requirement of Genesis USA (they are with a worse oil). Sure they can get other stuff "if not available"...but it is very obvious that ACEA A5 is available everywhere in the USA as a fully synthetic.

My 2 dealers care enough to stock ACEA A5 for use on their Genesis cars as recommended. If your service department does not carry that oil...that means they don't give a shit as to what Genesis recommends and/or they are too f'ing cheap to do so.

So I am not interested in "if not available" oils since the correct oil is clearly available.

No, actually you are missing the point entirely. Look at the specs for Quaker State Full Synthetic, there is no ACEA rating just an ILSAC rating.

You can also look at the oil recommendation tool on their site. The standard recommendation for the 3.3t engine (G70 is not in the database) is the synthetic blend, the premium is the full synthetic and the alternative is conventional.

You can have the last word if you think you need to, everyone else knows what the specs are and what oil fulfills them so I'm out.

^ not sure what you are looking at bubba.

Per the QS website...for the 3.3T AWD/RWD...and clearly ACEA A5/B5 rated...

Sure glad I had the last word...otherwise it wouldn't have cleared things up ;)

I will go back on my "last word" and give you the benefit of the doubt that you were just mistaken and not purposely trying to mislead. Your information above is for Penzoil, mine was for Quaker State which is the oil that is recommended by Genesis in the manual.

Please stop, you are not making yourself look good. ;)

^ oh crap!!! I totally thought I was looking at QS. It looked the same since it was the Shell site.

Oh well.

^ this all sounds like BS to me...I would be very careful.

Would you ever take your car to a service department that has never seen your car, doesn’t have specialized techs for your car and doesn’t stock any parts for your car?

Not just for your car...but any car from the brand Genesis.

So sure...you might find a way that a Hyundai dealer will look at it...but good luck with that nightmare!!!!! To add...you’d never be able to take advantage of all the great advantages a Genesis dealer offers.

True. But we're stuck with that until more Genesis dealers are built.
