  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Not sure if it is, but I think I see the first V8 for sale at a Carmax located in GA. I usually look at Carmax daily just out of habit. I have seen several V6 models that don't last long. Should be interesting to see how long this V8 lasts. They have it priced a little high in my opinion based on what I have seen people on this site paying for a new one.

What are they pricing the V8 at?

I just paid 38,8 for a V-8 tech in July with some accessories (trunk mat, wheel locks, etc.) The Carmax price seems very very high to me.

I agree with all that this price appears high. The only way they will sell that car at the current price is if they get someone that absolutely hates the car buying process (the negotiating), and will take it at that price. Looking at the pictures, the car also looks like it may be in need of tires. After only 12K miles. Hopefully that was due to poor maintenance and not a sign of things to come for the rest of us.

Regarding the OE tires that come on the 4.6, the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M were universally hated and scored lowest in the Ultra High Performance All Season Category on the TIRE RACK SURVEY.
Most of the complaints were focused on a harsh ride and poor wet/snow traction and poor treadwear. I have a feeling swapping these tires out are going to make people much happier about the controversial ride quality too.

Could this be the reason our cars have such a harsh ride?

I don't think it's the "reason", as in the sole reason. But I am sure those tires are not helping the situation either, as they lean towards dry grip and sport, rather than ride comfort and wet weather traction. I think an all season grand touring H rated tire will really help the people who find the ride to be a bit too harsh.

I love Carmax... they are the reason I was able to get my Genesis. I shopped all three of my local Hyundai dealerships and got horrible trade-in quotes for my Saab 9-3 Aero. Frustrated and tired I stopped at Carmax on my way home and got a great offer. Sold my Saab to them the next morning and got my Genesis after lunch. It is a great way to sell a vehicle (or even get a quote prior to trade-in somewhere else). In fact, I take all my cars to them every year to get a price quote (so I can track the value of my vehicles on my books). Fast, fun, and free...

Good points Vlad. Although Carmax isn't the only source for pricing info, I use them as a basis for what I can expect. I have also tried to use them when I was ready to make a vehicle change. I haven't purchased from them, but have received several quotes. Just so I could have something to fall back on if the dealers I was working with tried to use their normal low-ball tactics. They tend to be close to spot on in my opinion with what I was offered at a traditional dealership. I also can agree with most of the pricing of the cars they sell. However, this Genesis they have listed is not in line with what I would have expected. As stated earlier, folks have been getting brand new cars with the exact specs for the same price they have this used one listed. Maybe a $1000 drop ont his car might be the right price point. But that is just a guess.

The funny thing about buying is, you'll one day (presumably) have to sell. :D I might be a minority, but I don't like to see all of these crazy "below invoice" prices because those discounts then go directly to the used car market, driving the values down. It's exactly why Chryslers have terrible resale value. The dealers and manufacturer have long given ridiculous incentives to move the product to unsuspecting buyers who think they're getting a fantastic deal... until they go to trade or otherwise get rid of it and they're back to shelling out that discount to avoid being upside down.

I'm hoping Hyundai doesn't make the same mistake. These cars can sell without Chrysler incentives (public or dealer cash)... I hope they don't continue to screw those of us who only hang on to a vehicle, on average, only a couple of years at most. Resale value is going to be seriously looked at over the next year as people ponder the choice between the Genesis, Equus and their rivals.

Since this discussion is specifically about the Genesis Sedan, I moved it into the appropriate area. Yes, it can probably fall under the Tau forum as well - but I think it fits in here nicely.

Moderators, please make a note of this...

My wife drove the Genesis for the first time today. I'm coming out of a Jaguar XJ8 and I think the Gen has a rough ride.

She drives a Honda Odyssey and she thinks the ride is ever-so-sweet!

Without a doubt I think new tires will help. That chart is refreshingly depressing. "We are not alone!"

Does her Odyssey have those runflat tires that some of them are equipped with? If so, I can certainly understand why she would think the Genesis rides like butter!

Just looked at Carmax again and a second V8 with Tech has shown up in California. This one priced at $35,998 with 17K miles.

That was quick. The car is no longer listed. It either has been spoken for or it has been pulled and is in transit to another location. Carmax will delist vehicles when someone requests to transfer it to another location. We'll have to see if it shows back up. This one may have been priced right. Just below what folks are paying for new ones. Maybe just low enough for someone to bite!

I think pretty much all of Carmax prices are too high. I think the only reason people like them is because of the no haggle pricing and the convenience of getting the exact vehicle you want. If I needed a used car in a hurry they would be a good option, but if I have some time to shop I can beat their pricing easily by a significant amount.

Since Carmax is the topic, any feedback on how good their offers are to BUY a used car from you? Or do they just typically give what a dealer would offer?
