  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

flutter @ 25-30mph

Fluttering noise which goes away once car is driven a bit can often be caused by an unsecured heat shield. The exhaust heats quickly during vehicle operation, affecting the fit of associated heat shields and explaining how the sound dissipates once the vehicle is driven a few miles.

Might be worth taking a very thorough look at all heat shields to very fit & fasteners.

Very true good thought.

Sounds like hub bearing to me!
I stumbled across this thread after hearing the flutter/ticking between 25-35 mph, with 28-29 mph being most pronounced (especially when colder). I gave the Tech the thread Part Number that rojo2223 posted back in 2016 (49100-B1100). My invoice actually has Part Number 49100-B1300 listed. The flutter/ticking is now gone. The car does still have a noticeable vibration at about the same speeds until the car warms up, but at least that cringe-worthy noise is gone.

Has anyone had solely the vibration without the sound? I don't have the flutter but there's a prominent vibration at these speeds with the exact same conditions as the flutter

Yes. Tons of vibration with no noise now.

Same here. No noise and just a vibration. This is after getting the driveshaft replaced.

My research hasn't lead me anywhere and it certainly isn't the tires as I've already had them balanced

I think it could be the motor mounts.

I am pretty certain it is coming from the rear of the vehicle.

That doesn’t sound promising at all. Half shafts?

Not sure about that. May have come new with the rear diff. I gave up on it. I just live with it and hope it warms up fast so it goes away and get onto 35 MPH streets as fast as possible.

To me, it comes from in front of the fire wall.

No, they are the same. I am just using common sense at this point. I have had everything replaced but the trans and engine. So IMO, since it goes away with temp and is only there at a very specific speed, to me its the transmission or the motor mounts due to resonance. SPEED specific has to be transmission because if it was the drive shaft it would vibrate at that same RPM at a different speed since it does not know how fast the car is going. So I really pushed for a new transmission but Hyundai would not do it. They also would not do motor mounts.

So I think its the gear in the transmission or the motor mounts get hard when cold and takes time to soften up?

The driveshaft rotates depending on vehicle speed since it is after the transmission. The engine crankshaft is RPM dependent.

My mind instantly jumped to driveshaft seeing that the vibration seems to come from the reat/center of the car. Wouldn't have even considered this being a transmission issue but after seeing this thread I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

I had front and rear driveshafts and a transfer case replaced with no change to the vibration issues. The dealer worked with Hyundai tech line for over a month to fix the vibration and finally had a Hyundai field engineer fly in who determined that the tires were a contributing factor to the vibration. He threw some numbers at me claiming that the road force balancing indicated that the tires needed to be replaced. The car is still at the dealership for the sunroof TSB, but according to the service adviser, after swapping the wheels and tires with a different vehicle, he could not feel the vibration any longer. I will be picking up the vehicle later this week, will see... Somehow I don't feel confident that the tires are the reason, if not, I will be coming back as long as needed to have the issue fixed. Sadly, it appears to be a common problem according to this thread and in my particular case, Hyundai is not willing yet to go to the extent of replacing the whole transmission.

My dealer blamed the tires as well. Claimed he swapped for a set from another genesis and the vibration went away. I find this hard to believe since the location of the vibration doesn’t change at all when I rotate the tires.

Told me the tires are BS. The car is moving too slow to feel flat spotted tires. That type of vibration comes at highway speed. The issue is most likely in the transmission. It's probably expensive and why they dont want to replace it. It just makes sense. It's a problem in a specific gear and when the trans warms up it goes away. Or it's engine vibration from cold motor mounts. What ever it is, some days it's really bad, others it's not. So that part really baffles me. There is no way it's the drive shaft, and if it is they need to do something different because after 4 of them and no change, it's either defective or not the problem.
