  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I looked on HMA service but couldn't find anything and searched for a "how to" thread here, but couldn't find one. Could someone please give me an overview on how to replace the fog lamp bulbs? One burned out, so I'm replacing both. I've replaced bulbs in my former car (96 Maxima), but wonder how hard it will be on the Genny. I have a 2009 v6 Tech, if that matters.

Help, please. And feel free to tell it to me like I'm a three-year old. :D

If you look under "SHOP" in the Hyundai Service Website for your vehicle you will find instructions on how to access the fog lights under "Body Electrical System". You will have to remove the front bumper (refer Body, Exterior, Bumper). You can then decide if this is something you want to undertake.

NO no no- you don't have to remove the bumper cover to replace the bulb.
Pry the inner wheel cover away from the bumper cover for access to the FOG LAMP assembly.
Half- turn the lamp socket and replace the bulb.
Careful when replacing- a little silicon on the mating socket will prevent future condensation.

I saw that part of the HMA manual that referenced removing the front bumper cover and decided (fervently hoped) that this was only necessary if one was replacing the fog light assemblies altogether. Thanks for confirmation on that.

Now my ignorant questions:
1) what is the "inner wheel cover" and how do I pry it?

2) You are suggesting applying a little silicon caulk around the rim of the socket thingy where it meets the outside of the assembly, yes? The thing the bulb actually gets plugged into?

Changing the H8 Fog Lamps is so very easy. Look under the front of the car, just under the fog lamps, and unscrew the bottom cover (I think I had to unscrew) one screw. Then just tip the cover down, reach in and pull the old H8 bulb out and install the new
H8. Really simple.

Thanks everyone for the assistance.

No, the bulbs are not a warranty item (though in extreme circumstances where it is clear that a bulb died prematurely, I could see a dealership replacing the bulb as a courtesy). Nice to hear that some dealers are stretching the envelope on this as customer service.
