It has been previously reported that someone looked for and didn't find any obvious harness in place for the fog lights. I think I may have found them. Automotive electrical is not my forte, but while I was underneath, waiting for the oil to drain, I think I may have it. On the driver side, underneath the fog light location, located next to the horn, there is a black connector with an orange "plug" connected to it. There is nothing coming from the back of the plug, it appears to be a termination.

In the same location on the passenger side, there are two gray plugs, very similar to the orange on on the driver side. I was able to pull one of the gray ones and snap a picture. There are metal pins that are all connected so it appears to short the whole top row and the whole bottom row. I can't help but think this is a connector cover to protect the existing plug.

So IF this is where I would plug in the fog lights, any ideas where I would turn them on? Where is the fog light switch on the 5.0? On the stalk or one of the buttons to the left? Knowing there has got to be someone more ambitious than me, I put out the challenge. Who will be the first to retrofit fog lights onto the 3.8L?

Good find! The fog lights are on the stalk on the 5.0.

As mentioned the 5.0 has a different turn signal stalk with the included fog light switch. So the question becomes HOW would you control the foglight operation IF someone figured out how to install the lights using parts from a 5.0

One option would be to replace the stalk with a 5.0 stalk. I have a base 3.8 so I have a blank button switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. I could probably use that for a switch location if I could find an appropriate switch.

Could be possible that Hyundai plans to offer the fog lights as an accessory for the 3.8 V6 somewhere in the future and put the wiring harness in place at the factory. Or, it could be that the fog lights are offered elsewhere on the 3.8 (but not in the US) and for production it is just easier to install the harness on all cars, blocking off those that don't get fog lights?
Having the harness already installed would save a lot of work if an accessory becomes available, but the real question is WHERE does the harness terminate in the car? To be of any use you have to be able to hook up to it with a switch and a source of power.

Manufactures use the same wiring harness in the different vehicle trims. Why you can add LED scuff plates in 3.8- the wiring is there- presto chango! Just need to buy the 5.0 stalk and LED fogs

Anyone find out what the parts would cost?

I reached out to Genesis Customer Care and they are researching the fog lights. Sounds like all of the Canadian versions come with the fog lights, so maybe there is some hope. I haven't been able to find the part number from the 5.0.

At dealership in S Florida right now. For the 5 fog lights the price is $600 each:mad:

I will wait for the eBay kit from Korea which hopefully would include the turn stalk:D

Wowza! Each, not pair? And I'm assuming not installed...

Okay, so I just got the raw pricing for the turn signal stalk and the light assemblies. The stalks are unique to vehicle features so there are a lot of options already in the parts guide. For mine, the V6 HTRAC Ultimate, here is the break down (straight from a local Hyundai parts department)
  • Turn-Signal Stalk (V6 AWD Ultimate edition) - $410.00
  • Left Foglight Assembly (w/bulbs) - $553.36
  • Right Foglight Assembly (w/ bulbs) - $553.36
That is a total of $1516.72, without dealer install. That is ridiculously expensive for fog lights. Someone will come out with an aftermarket set that fits the openings for a quarter of that.

I also got confirmation that the parts and service guys think the install is relatively painless for the stalk and the fog light assemblies.

Oh geezzz.. by the look of item description... part of bumper bar needs to be sawed off for these fog lights to fit. Same had to be done on my 2012 optima sx turbo to get OEM LED DRL installed. Because USA models needed "longer" bumper bar, they couldnt fit LED DRLs that were standard on over sea models. For 2013 year model, KIA installed modified bumper bar that accommodated these LED DRLs at the same time met US regulation which is optima SXL trim.

I'm guessing bumper bars on 3.8 are different from 5.0 models

Hi, new guy here.

I think before you get too deep into this, you are going to need to score a service manual with wiring diagrams for both models. I'm pretty sure that it uses a relay to switch the lights on and off. You will need to see if the relay is in the 3.8 (not likely) if the harness has wires and contacts in the module holding the relay (possibly not).

While Hyundai may use a generic wiring harness for both cars, I would bet that they left out the soft chewy center on the 3.8 to save cost.

That's the smart money... I'll take that same bet! Although I would love to have those lights on my 3.8 Ultimate AWD... It's not worth the $2K for parts and labor to get them. The eBay lights look good but don't include wiring instructions, save to say there may be some cutting involved. I've been to two dealers on Long Island who don't even know if it can be done! I think Hyundai is losing a sizable market by not offering them as an option...

If the ebay lights fit the bumper, it might be a smart play. But I would be prepared to add a switch on the inside with a relay in the engine compartment to control them.

I added LED fog lights to a 95 Cadillac Sedan Deville and came up with a control box with a sweet little momentary push button switch that looked good. You just need to be prepared to improvise.

I will probably add them to mine, but right now I don't have time to come up with a control circuit. If you are handy electronically you will need, JK flip-flops, 556 timers, solid state switches, AND gates, OR gates and inverters are needed to get it to work properly. You need to work out a truth table based on inputs (start up, fog lights on, head lights, high beam on, high beam off).

Based off of the $350 for the ebay lights, I think you could do it right for about $1000. I would add a button on the dash and not mess with replacing the turn signal stalk, there are just too many gremlins you could unleash with that.

$1000? I think a more economical approach would be to go to a psychiatrist and have them administer electric shock therapy while viewing pics of a fog light on a car, so that whenever you see a fog light you feel like puking, and you will get over the irrational desire to retrofit them to your Genesis. I am pretty sure that with Obamacare, psychiatrists are required to be covered in medical plans these days.

I already have fog lights on my first generation Genesis, but they are too expensive to operate. The cost of the fog lamps is not the problem, but one can spend a fortune on gas driving around looking for fog.
