If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fog Light Harness in the 3.8L?

I already have fog lights on my first generation Genesis, but they are too expensive to operate. The cost of the fog lamps is not the problem, but one can spend a fortune on gas driving around looking for fog.
Enjoy the drive! 😆
The '15 lights look great, but...

I would like fog lights. Almost all of my other cars have had fog lights. My 3.8 doesn't have them. It would look really nice on there. It isn't piratical from a cost or time perspective to make this happen.

I have already learned to live without it.

I added the fog lights to the Caddy because the stock headlights provided poor illumination. That is why I insisted on HID headlights on my next car.

I also used them for DRL. I will have to wait for fog to see how the HID's perform in that environment.

The $1000 figure would be to do it with class. If you are just happy with a switch under the dash, the figure would be ~$500.

It's not my place to snark at how others want to customize their ride. For me, I like the look of the fog lights and I am an electronics geek, so that is my hobby. I don't point out to a fisherman, that for the cost of the boat a lot of fresh fish can be flown in from anywhere.

The headlights and fog lights each have their own job. Headlights illuminate distance vision and fog lights illuminate the lane markings on the side of the road. Fog lights are not intended to produce much light in front of the vehicle, because this is what headlights are for, and fog lights actually reduce your distance vision, which is why they are only intended to be used with fog, snow storms, heavy rain etc....basically slow speed driving.

Couldn't they just be connect to the low beam wiring? So every time the low beam is on, so will be the fog lights. In this scenario theres no need for a switch.

Yeah, what would happen is that when it would rain the asphalt would just absorb all light and I would lose the lane markings. The fog lights helped. They didn't illuminate the markings, but I could at least see the raised area from the marking material.

Great example^DFW. Sucks when the road is wet on asphalt since it's hard to see anything like you mentioned. I get lucky once in a while when it's raining and I'm driving on a concrete road, but they are far and few.

They are not just for fog - they are driving lights and serve to get more light on the road:

"Front fog lamps provide a wide, bar-shaped beam of light with a sharp cutoff at the top, and are generally aimed and mounted low. They may produce white or selective yellow light, and are intended for use at low speed to increase the illumination directed towards the road surface and verges in conditions of poor visibility due to rain, fog, dust or snow."

So very useful lighting, despite your sarcasm - cost/value is up to each person to decide for themselves for those that actually own or plan to own a 2015 Genesis (versus the critical lurkers and legacy model owners who really should not care.)

The LED fogs will not draw much current at all. I do a LOT of LED lighting mods to my motorcycles, buildings, home, etc. and I'd take a SWAG that at the most each will draw 20watts, so doing the math... for both left and right your talking 3.5 amps. That can be handled by a simple flush mount toggle switch that is tucked under the dash.

I agree that they are occasionally useful, but at $1000+ If I had a 2015 without them, I would not be interested, especially since it is not an easy install. I realize that 2015 has outstanding torsional rigidity, but people should lighten up a little bit.

I guess most of us 3.8 owners will have to wait for an aftermarket kit. I just got my response from Equus and Genesis customer care. They are not planning to provide fog lights to the 3.8 Genesis any time soon. I love my car, but it kind of pisses me off. You spend $50K on a car and something as simple as fog lights aren't available. You can get them on the every other model of Hyundai, but not the AWD Genesis. Maybe they cut the cost of the vehicle by taking out the fog lights to bring the price down, but it still kind of sucks.

Yeah, I think they must have had some kind of cost number they were trying to stay under, and the fog lights did not make the cut. Pretty stupid, since at least for Ultimate buyers, customers are not that price sensitive that they could not spend another couple of hundred dollars.

Yes and Yes, although I doubt I'd go through the bother of installing an aftermarket kit assuming an "all-in-one" solution did become available, since I just don't see myself investing the amount of requisite labor to install one. If I could get the whole shebang done with someone else installing for me in the $350 range, I'd do it -- but that seems highly unlikely.

I order the LED FOG LAMPS listed on eBay 4 or 5 days past. I install them on my 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate Pamplona Red. I install them 09/10/14 without any cutting. I had them installed in about 1 hour. The eBay LED Fog Lamp fit. I have two vendors on eBay checking on the parts and cost to completed the job. I will post more information when I get it.

If you plan to install Painted Body Side Moldings check Spoiler and Wing King Web sit the 2014 Genesis for your color other wise we will have to wait until Hyundal release the color data

Awesome - so it appears from the box pics that they are the OEM Hyundai fog lights? How did you wire them to get them to light? Did you put in a separate switch or did you change out the stalk on the steering wheel? Pics of the switch or stalk setup, please! Thanks!

My thoughts exactly... I am more than a little hesitant to start cutting into my bumper 😯 and I'm also very curious about the wiring.

I don't think he has figured that part out yet:

He's just got the fog lamps with harness mounted I believe. I think he still has a ways to go before they have power (I don't think they're powered -- maybe I'm wrong) and a switch to operate them. Must admit, I'm fascinated to see progress being made here, even if I'm not willing to do so myself.

I purchased the led kit from e-bay it is the factory led fog light set confirmed part number with Mobis I did not have to cut the bumper it appears that the bumper is already cut back I have the 3.8 ultimate AWD model. It took about an hour to do the biggest part was to remove the cover under the engine which was not difficult to do. Hyundai Mobis parts sells the Korean and Canadian parts for the 2015 Genny which are plug and play. So far I traced the harness by the horns for the fog lights, The fog light fuse in located in the trunk is a 10 amp fuse which is already installed and the relay is located under the front dash. I contacted Mobis south Korea the stalk and the sub harness are plug and play without modifications they have the Canadian 3.8 fog stalk and the US 5.0 stalk which are basically the same configuration. the American dealer the sell Hyundai Mobis parts is 0EMPARTS123.COM which sells only Hyundai parts, they give up to a 15 percent discount on parts. I contacted them I was told the 2015 Genesis parts will be available in December they don't have the complete parts listings yet because new are still in model year 2014 only dealers have the listings. If you plan to do the mod better to wait to buy parts on line than to pay full price from dealer purchase with price marked up. I put a heated steering wheel in my 2012 Azera and had to change the clock spring which was 65 dollars this was so the heated wheel could work plug and play purchased form OEMPARTS123.COM remember when ordering from them use the part number you look up because if you use your vin for certain parts it won't be the part you want to do mods. they will send you the US part.
