Hello everyone.

I have the V8 Gen. with Tech.

As curious as I am I wanted to know exactly what type of bulb was needed for the fog lights. The manual just says 35w. That basically tells me nothing.

I removed 3-4 little plastic screws till they were loose and popped out the little plastic things from the cover. I then pulled back the cover and removed the bulb.

The bulb is an *****H8*****. No part store in Hartselle, Al sells this bulb. They can order it though.

The main reason I looked is because I like the look of the HID headlights and the yellow fog lights.

I just purchased some NOKYA H8 45w YELLOW bulbs to play with. I had an HID retrofit kit in my Camry and the yellow bulbs in the fogs and it looked great.

The Adaptive Front Lighting is absolutely AWESOME. Wow, what a great invention. I can now make sharp turns without worrying if my back tires are going to hit the curb or the ditch. This is especially the case with my wife driving the car:o

Anywho, I just thought I would pass this on. Pictures will be posted as soon as they come in.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Could you post some photos on how to remove the fog lamp bulbs?

Are the plastic screws visible from the outside? With the underbody aero kit I thought it would be difficult to change these bulbs.

Thanks

Will do. Its really simple. Just get on the ground directly in front of your front tires. Look UP. You will see either 3-4 little plastic BLACK phillips head screws. LOOSEN THE SCREWS ONLY...do not remove the screw from the plastic. Once the screws are loose gently pull the WHOLE PLASTIC Piece from the cover. Once you have removed the screws you can pull the cover towards the REAR of the car and it should pop out just enough to change the bulb.

Look up and to your left and you will see the bulb cocked to one side. To remove it simply turn the whole bulb to the DOWN position and then pull it out.

Ill make some pictures. I was going to last night but I have to go buy a firewire for my new camera...

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Thanks for the added detail. I know where you are talking about and looked at these last night.

I am interested in the yellow fog lights too. Are the NOKYA lights working out on the Genesis. Did you order on line?

If you have any photos of the Genesis with the lights fitted and on would be great too.

Thanks for posting.

I would assume they are....but dont take my word for it.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

the owner's manual doesn't distinguish between the V8 or V6, safe bet they are the same

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Thank's guys

Re: Fog lights bulb size

ok, everybody...need help. Now that I have installed the bulbs, for some reason, they are pointing really high. For instance, every street sign is YELLOW! If anybody is bored today and need something to do, see if you can help me out by figuring out how to adjust the fog lights.

I dont understand as to why they are doing that, given it is the same H8 bulb and a direct fit, but I really need to fix it.

I am not able to access the HMA service website here at work. Good luck searching!!

Thanks,

Matt

Adjustment
Head Lamp Aiming Instructions <Mechanical aiming>

The head lamps should be aimed with the proper beam-setting equipment, and in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's instructions.
note_icon.gif
If there are any regulations pertinent to the aiming of head lamps in the area where the vehicle is to be used, adjust so as to meet those requirements.

Alternately turn the adjusting gear to adjust the head lamp aiming. If beam-setting equipment is not available, proceed as follows :

1.Inflate the tires to the specified pressure and remove any loads from the vehicle except the driver, spare tire, and tools.
2.The vehicle should be placed on a flat floor.
3.Draw vertical lines (Vertical lines passing through respective head lamp centers) and a horizontal line (Horizontal line passing through center of head lamps) on the screen.
4.With the head lamp and battery in normal condition, aim the head lamps so the brightest portion falls on the vertical lines.

Make vertical adjustments to the lower beam using the adjusting wheel.
A : Vertical adjustment(High/Low)

<AFLS aiming>
1.Using the scanner, do the following procedures. (Refer to the " Adaptive Front Lighting System")
(1)Download Parameter
(2)Erase the error code
(3)System Calibration
(4)Erase the error code
(5)Actuator Test
(6)Check the error code
2.Turn on the headlamp low & Hi beam after engine is running.
3.Adjust the "mechanical aiming".

Front Fog Lamp Aiming
The front fog lamps should be aimed as the same manner of the head lamps aiming.

With the front fog lamps and battery normal condition, aim the front fog lamps by turning the adjusting gear (A).

1.Turn the low beam on with driver.
In case of bulb option, the Cut-off line should be projected in the allowable range (shaded region).

* In case of high beam, head lamp do not need aiming with proper beam-setting equipment.
2.Turn the low beam on with driver.
In case of HID option, the Cut-off line should be projected in the allowable range shown in the picture.
In case of equipping with the auto leveling device, set the initialization by using the diagnostic tool before aiming.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

ok...well, I got under the car again and found the magic little wheel described in the schematic above. This wheel only moves the light just a little bit. It has a little tab on it. This tab prevents you from going to far.

I parked about 4 feet from the garage door. I then adjusted the nob from lock to lock and measured the movement of the light. Total movement was 4.5 inches. I set the lights at the lowest point on the dial and every stop sign is still yellow. Disappointed...YES. For some reason, I cannot figure out why the same bulb, the same wattage, but a different color is making the foglights brighter to oncoming traffic than the stock bulb. It says the oem bulb is GERMAN H8...are they any different than an American or Chinese H8 bulbs?

Well...im stumpted.

I reckon I will have to go back to my old way of correcting lighting issues. In my Camry, I had a HID kit. In the stock 9006 housing the HID lights gave off a nasty glare. In order to remove the glare I fabricated, out of sticker vinyl, an eyelid. This eyelid covered the glare to oncoming drivers. Looking at the shape of the fog light bezel in the Genesis, I came to the conclusion that lower light comes from the top of the bezel and higher light, which hits oncoming traffic and stop signs, comes from the bottom of the bezel. In turn, I will create another black vinyl sticker to cover the bottom portion of the fog light.

OR.....I will add washers to the bottom bolts holding the housing in place. The washers would go between the housing and the bumper. Not sure if it has bolts but it sounds good...HA!

Anywho...that's where I am at now.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Hi Pinggolf, I fitted my Nokya yellow H8's this evening. I am very pleased with the look at night and the contrast between the white Xenon lamps and the yellow fog lamps.

I did not do any adjustment to the alignment. There is obviously a yellow tinge when the fog lamps are on but it is not a strong effect. Mine do not light up signs significantly either.

Just thinking of the simple things first. Do you think it could be the way the bulb is seated in the holder? Have you checked the bulb is square and locked in position?

Obvious question but thought I'd ask.
