Fog Lights Bulb Size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

Is this a plug and play change? I have a 2012 4.6 and was wanting a brighter fog light. Is there a specific part number?

Sorry for late reply. Yes it is plug and play, no modification. I ordered from DDMtuning. It's been almost 3 weeks since installed and still running strong. No problem. But theres one thing i dont like about it. The color is not solid yellow light. It's rainbowish... but the light output is pure yellow.

and the reason why I didnt stay with yellow halogen is b/c our foglights use H8 which are 35watt. All my previous cars had yellow fogs installed... and they all used H11 which are 55watt and nokya yellow bulbs looks so much better when its 55watt. More yellow and brighter. These 35watt looked very washed out... both nokya and luminic.

On the sylvania website it showed the bulb as H11B. I ordered the HID H11B in the 35 watt version since it is in the fog light. Will this still work for my 2012? They look great on your car!!

I have a feeling that it will not work but I'm not very sure. I believe the connection, shape, size of H8 and H11 are same with different wattage(H8 = 35w and H11 = 55w). But H11B looks different from H11 and H8.

EDIT:: by the way... in case you didnt know... our genesis do not use H11B for foglights. We use H8. Sylvania is wrong.

So I got my lights from DDM Tuning and you are absolutely correct that the 2012 has an H8 bulb. What was wierd about it all was I could easily install the H11 bulb into the socket. The problem was the light didn't work. I only did one side so I didn't test both bulbs and ballast.

I ordered the 35watt ballast for the fog light but could the H11 bulb still work since it mounted just fine?

I also put in a LED bulb for the rear turn signal, do I have to put in the resistor to make them flash appropriately?

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Here's some photos I took this evening. I am very pleased with the yellow foglight look. Not sure if the photos totally capture it.

Looks great Matt. I like this a lot but am also thinking about LED's.

I posted this in a different thread but what's the bottom line for converting the OEM fog light bulbs to HID....is it possible and easily done, as a simple plug and play kit? i just don't like the look of the incandescent fog lamps below the HID and projectors. It makes the car look 'cheaper' for some reason.

It's possible and quite easy (I've done it). But the glare is ridiculous. HID is only designed to be used in a projector type lens such as our headlights. Put in Halogen lens and they product brutal glare, and do not project the light on the road properly. Some cars have projector lenses for headlights and foglights such as my brothers 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited, but most do not not. I have a thread where I posted a video of the bulbs on if ya want to take a look.

H11 will probably fit in our foglight housing but might turn on or might not. but dont use them b/c H11 bulbs are 55watt bulbs and will burn too hot if it does turn on. Most like will burn the housing.

Oh~ I read your post wrong. So you were able to fit H11 HID kit on our genesis... not H11 halogen. Yes... I believe it should work.

Oh, OK. Can the bulbs then be re-aimed to reduce the glare? I don't really 'need' the HIDs for fog lamps - I suppose better temperature bulb might suffice....

Yes, I know the exact thing you are talking about with the scattered light. I ride a Suzuki Burgman motorcycle and it has dual bulbs, 55/65w. Many of my fellow riders have 'added' aftermarket HID kits, and while they can see quite well at night, the bulbs produce an unfocused brutal bright light that affects oncoming drivers as they are not properly aimed and/or projected. I appreciate your comments on this. I believe I will just try to match the color temp to the HIDs with halogens and call it done. Thx.

To me, the glare is not a problem. Yes, it is there but I have 3000k bulbs which are not that sensitive to human eyes. Now if I had 6000k or 8000k... then I would get flashed every 10 minutes b/c those color temperatures are much more sensitive to human eyes. I had 3000k hid installed for couple of months and always on with headlights at night time and never got flashed. I do live in New York City though.

EDIT:: I drove from NY to FL in one shot through the night and back and never got flashed. If you go with HID just make sure you get the right bulb size and it will be properly aimed like the pictures i uploaded on previous page.

How long did that trip take you, if you don't mind me asking? My father does the Jacksonville - White Plains trip in about 17 hours. Just curious.

Took me about 16 hours of driving one way. Hehe... the last 3 hours was rough. I left NYC (Staten Island) after work around 7PM and arrived Deltona near Olando around 11:30am. After driving 13 hours you finally reach FL and you think you're there but you're not. That last 3 hours feels like an eternity. I rather drive from NY to CA over 4 days than NY to FL in one drive. I counted 2831 miles from NYC to Diamond Bar, CA (with little detour to Las Vegas). haha I remember asking this guy at DC for direction to California (as joke). The look on his face was priceless.
