  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone done it? I thought the roads in Columbus were just bad (they are) on my test drive, but it turns out the car needs to have the front brakes replaced. I purchased a PowerStop K5843 1 Click brake kit, but I can't seem to find a DIY or how-to video/thread on the topic. I've changed brakes on plenty of cars before, so I'm not overly worried about the procedure, just seeing if there are any pitfalls I should be aware of. Thanks!

I have 130k miles on the brakes on my 4.6 and many others have a lot of miles with no brake work needed. So there may be few people that can give you first hand advice/tips. I do think the oem pads are ceramic.

Haven't touched my rear brakes, but the front brakes are very standard in change out, so nothing out of the ordinary. I'm still running stock pads, but installed R1 Concepts drilled/slotted rotors about 4 years ago.

Update: front pads and rotors are definitely shot, but I couldn't get the rotors off because I couldn't get a solid grip on a screw driver to undo the set screws in the rotor. So much for getting the brakes done before vacation on Saturday :/

You can drill these out as 1 option or another option, you can use a manual impact driver from your local Harbor Freight for about $7. http://www.harborfreight.com/impact-screwdriver-set-with-case-37530.html

This is what I use and it's very useful. I've only broken one of them so far:) They are cheap though. Good luck.

2nd the manual impact driver.

I use one for Hondas and it works brilliantly.

Awesome tips, I've never seen that before. I leave early in the AM tomorrow, but if I had that tool I'm fairly confident I could get the job done fairly quickly now. I don't have a harbor freight near by, but I'll see if I can get one of those around here. Thanks for the ideas guys!!

Yep, an impact driver with the proper size bit should work.

Update:
Finished!! Thanks so much for the idea of the impact driver, that helped immensely. I had to resort to penetrating oil as well as a torch for one of the screws but the job is done. I need to read up on proper bedding in techniques to ensure longevity, or so I hear, but I'm stoked it's finished before vacation. Thanks again guys!

Thats crazy. When i slapped on my EBC rotors, the screws came out way too easy by hand. BTW, if anyone decides to do EBC rotors along with red or yellowstuff pads, the bedding process takes FOREVER!!! Squealing like a pig for about 700 miles once down to about 30mph. Then it just stopped. Super quiet now

FYI for anyone interested...here are bedding instructions from the guy I get all my drilled & slotted rotors and performance pads from (2009 Sonata Limited 3.3LV6, 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8L V6 Track MT & 2013 Genesis Sedan 3.8L V6 w/Premium Package).
