  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front brake pad and rotor replacement at dealer

It's very easy to change the pads on the Genesis. If you're doing it yourself, you will spend less than half of what the dealer quoted you for the fronts. I spent about $420 with shipping & taxes for both front and rear pads and rotors. I went with the Power Stop, drilled and slotted from Rockauto.com & look and perform great. There are cheaper options as well from there and other sources.
How do you like the power stops? I wanted something with more stopping power than OEM.

I put 10k miles on the car in about 8 months after the rotors were resurfaced and new pads installed and had zero issues. I recently sold the car to a family member and he has put an additional 2k miles on it. No vibration when braking. No braking issues whatsoever. Is it possible some dealers are charging for resurfacing but are not doing it correctly just to get you to purchase new rotors?

I feel they are close to OEM, it's hard to say exactly, but they could be a little more, or maybe a little less, but close enough and I'm happy with them a year later.

Have you switched to a sticky tire compound? This will give you higher braking capabilities vs changing over rotors and pads. You could install a huge brake kit on your car, but they will do anything but overwhelm the tires and your stopping distance won't decrease.

Quoted $487 for just the fronts.

Seems high, yes?

I've done brakes on my Ram and older Elantra, but was worried about the Genesis brakes. Should I just do them myself?
Thats not bad. On my genesis it was 793.00 same work done.

I bought new Centric rotors and pads from RockAuto for my Infiniti G37 a few years ago, they were $241 shipped. I paid another $275 to a garage to have them installed. Dealer wanted over $1,000 for same work.

The OEM rotors and pads kept getting the pulsing issue, many think the rotors are warped, but it's uneven pad material on the rotors. Dealer kept wanting to turn them. That never happened on the Centric set.

Sorry I meant powerstop rotors they are coated. Not the cross drilled ones though. Dealer wanted $800 discounted, for the oem ones does not include installation. Sheer insanity!
Did anyone else install power stop z23 pads and rotors? The rotors don’t fit over the parking brakes. I called power stop and they said, just take the parking brake shoes out.
Has anyone found a way to keep parking brake with power stop rotors?

So, how are you supposed to secure your car on a hill? Yell at with harsh language?

You can always turn the front wheel so the car backs into the curb but that’s hard on the tires and the parking pin. It still seems totally crazy that they would design the rotors like that.

My guess is that the rotors weren't designed for the Genesis. Rather, they were the same diameter as another car. To even suggest that you defeat a safety system is negligent and downright dangerous.

Besides, I'm pretty sure if you take out your parking brake shoes and turn on the auto hold system, the parking brake servo will set and error and your auto hold system will be disabled.

No way I'd do this. Just buy OEM pads at the parts counter.

What mileage are you getting with the brakes?

FYI, I have the power stop's on my car now and the first set that I bought on amazon was actually for a G1 genesis not the G2. I found a few online stores that showed them fitting my car when they didn't. I contacted power stop to notify them that they have them listed for the wrong car and provided proof of the websites showing the wrong parts for my car and they did send me the new rotors but still said I purchased the wrong set and refused to acknowledge the issues online. That was July 2019 and I just order new rotors and pads from a local Hyundai dealer today as the power stops shake like mad when braking at speeds over 40. Maybe I got a bad set or maybe they are still not the proper ones for my car? Who knows but I got 40k from the OEM set before I started to feel some vibration and not even 10K with the power stops. They still look good though!

As for the OEM parts my dealer down the block wanted $500 just for the rotors and pads and another $200 to install them and wanted $40 for my broken dipstick. I found another dealer in northern IL and I got the rotors, pads and dip stick for $330+ tax. Shop around if you want OEM rotors.

Sure does and I'm certain that it'll trip some sort of warning in the dash cluster too... If it were me, I'd just do the rotors in the front. As they're the ones doing most of the work anyway.
