  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front license plate bracket

Good luck in your search, that'll be an excellent spec. You could also look to have your dealer swap for one (possibly one in transit so nobody has touched the front). Might cost about $1k, but it would save some hassle for you.

My problem is that my dealer hasn't got his license yet (Nashville). They have a new showroom, some inventory (but not what I am looking for) but they can't sell any Genesis yet :(. They told me they could do that once they got their license but I will start actively looking to buy my cars in a few weeks and I am not sure they will be up and running. I went a bit further, down to Huntsville, AL, to try to look at a new Adriatic Blue they were supposed to have (the car was sold when I arrived) but they did not impress me. I am going to start asking around about all the great dealers to buy from in the Southeast and will see who I want to work with...

It's a really nice, high quality product and beats drilling holes to mount a dumb plastic bracket in the center of that nice grille. A bit pricey though.

I've used similar brackets on my other cars just not from this company.
Yeah My lexus IS brakcet was like 80 bucks too. These things are never cheap :(

I am glad I found your answer since I cannot find the combination I want (Mallorca Blue Prestige with Grey interior, 3.3t RWD) anywhere in TN and I am contemplating the possibility to purchase it out of state where a front plate bracket would be a possibility and I was concerned there is no clean way to remove it...
Many dealerships wont mount the plates until the sale. Just ask them not to if you dont want it mounted.

I did not know that this is very good to know! I recently moved to TN, always bought cars in areas where a front plate is mandatory (Europe, IL and CO) and the front grille of that car is too pretty to be messed up by a front plate holder when I am lucky enough to not need it

I believe this was me. There are no VISIBLE holes, but you are right that they are drilled into the plastic piece (bumper?) behind the grill. I took my salesman's screwdriver and unscrewed it at the dealership since it was already on. You won't notice the holes unless you really look, but if you're super OCD about it, fill the holes with some crayon, shoe goo, boba, or whatever else you can think of. I just put the screws back into the holes. I should emphasize, you literally will not see these holes unless you put your face right in front of your grill. Aka I only see them if I care to look while washing my car.

If I remember correctly, the mounting mechanism amounts to self tapping screws.

Bump.

Can anyone verify that they are, in fact, self tapping screws that hold the mounting frame? I ask because I’ll probably have to remove one from the G70 I’m looking to buy.

I plan to run no front plate when I get mine and will just zip tie the plate to the grille when I need to get it inspected--in MA we still have a decent number of "Greenies", the single rear green on white plate so enough cars run no front plate to make it a non-issue unless a cop wants to be a real dick. My Audi S8 had a European tag up front and I never got flack for it in 2+ years, except for the junior G man at the inspection station

You know, when I decided not to add the front plate (I always hated it on my Genesis Ultimate) I figured as long as keep it in the trunk I could always say I was waiting for the bracket. You brought up a good point. What do I do at inspection time? I hadn’t thought that far. I do like your tie wrap idea I’ll go with that.

I guess each state inspection criteria is different. In Texas front plates are technically required, but I’ve never installed one and never had an inspection nazi fail my cars. If a cop wants to fish for something and you have no front plate, I realize I’ve put out an invitation to the popo. I’m long past my teenage years and it seems most cops go after flashy higher end cars or young drivers if your running with no front plate.

Massachusetts is the commonwealth of the colonoscopy come inspection time. My 89 Land Cruiser failed once because there was a small punch out of the tail light reflector the size of a nickel on the non-lit part of the lens. In Georgia there would be nothing but a $10-ish ad valorem tax to pay by mail and no other inspection whatsoever for such an old car.

Double sided sticky tape or even some putty might hold the plate on the car temporarily to pass inspection. If the car came with a front plate, just save those screws in your glove box. If pulled over, say one broke off and you took off the plate so as to avoid any potential (safety) issues with the plate flying off on the freeway

So, I removed the tow hook bracket and installed the factory mount. Actually looks better IMO despite having some holes drilled that nobody will ever see.

Not in MA. The inspection guys seem to inwardly giggle with joy in finding violations

Will be mounting the front plate today in Chicago. I never had any problems here for the last few months. About a week ago I was talking to a buddy and he said "no front plate huh? I did not have mine on until I kept getting tickets..."

The curse of death. I got a $60 ticket that week.

Pisser getting a ticket. Board Cop looking for low hanging fruit and easy ticket. Fortunately most Texas cops don’t bother or will use not having a front plate as an invitation for a fishing expedition to see if your a bad guy or have warrants. I keep my front plate under my front seat within easy reach. If getting pulled over for something the plate will show up on my dash. I’m sorry officer, front plate mount got broken and new one is on order from South Korea. None of my vehicles have had front plates installed for I hate the looks of such.

If anyone needs a NEW OE plate mount free just shipping and paypal fee!

I agree. Now seeing the entire front in the photo above, I'm not sure what advantage the side mount has over the center mount plate, other than to make the front of the car asymmetric.
I've been in a low speed collision with the tow mount bracket, and it saved the front of my car. Just peeled the ppf off and has my detailer do his thing. A regular plate bracket and my whole bumper would have been buggered.

Sorry for the delay. I looked all over for it, I think it got thrown in recycling.
