  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys, was in a small accident with the Genesis. Fortunately it wasn't my fault and insurance is covering it. A bonus is that by slipping my buddy who owns the body shop some extra cash he's basically fixing all the scratches dings, dents and painting/clear coating and blending whatever needs it. I also paid a little extra for PPG paint which I believe is OEM for Hyundai.

One thing is I'm having him bondo over and eliminate the front license plate bracket holes. I live in California where we're required to have a front plate but for those of you who live here probably know a good 10-15% of cars don't have one anyway. It's a small "fix it" ticket if caught but something I'm willing to risk to have a clean front end.

Most cops will ignore the lack of a front plate unless you're also speeding or doing something to attract their attention. However I have heard of people being ticketed for parking on the street without a front plate. I rarely park my car on the street but want to be prepared if I have to.

One of my buddies who has an M3 also doesn't have a front plate but he has a BMW tow hook mounting system which allows you to add a the front plate to show the officer you're within the law when you get the fix it ticket signed off. Then you can just remove it again later.

I see some people on Amazon selling these kits for the Genesis Coupe and Elantra but nothing that specifically mentions the Genesis sedan. Does anyone know of one? I'm thinking the coupe model might be the same as the sedan but I'm not sure.

Here's the one for the coupe.

It's not worth it in my opinion. I ran without front plates for years on several cars and got my fair share of tickets as a result (including tickets while street parked). When I had my Genesis Coupe I also ran without a plate for some time but eventually had my plate side mounted via the GrimmSpeed tow hook mount as the police attention was unwanted and often led to additional tickets for window tint or exhaust. My sedan runs plates front/rear and I'm still undecided on window tint as it just gives them another reason to pull me over. Maybe I'm just turning into an old man at the tender age of 28 but the hassle outweighs the visual benefit.

You could get one of those as well No Holes Front License Plate Mount

Even if you get a ticket for it, it would/might be "fixing/fix/fix it ticket" lol (California law)

I live in IL and run without front plate since ~2002 on 4 different cars and only been bothered once, it was on bimmer - maybe that's why :D

You old man :)

As soon as I turned 30 last year I had high cholesterol for the first time at my next check up - no joke.

On a relevant note, my current Genesis was originally sold in Illinois and had the stupid plate mount on the front when it was delivered. There's no front plate requirements in the commonwealth.

I have three black screws in the bumper holes rather than showing that ugly plate mount. Wish someone would give my front end a love tap and pay for a new hole-less bumper.

@zielritter

I remember I've seen somewhere you could get those black screws painted to match the body color. Google it if you want, use those keywords.
I would get rid of my mount plate as well if I had them.

I'm pretty sure that's the one I'll get. Then I'll just leave under brackets on and the vertical ones off. If I get pulled over.... "Oh sorry officer, I was in a car show a few weeks ago and must have forgot to put it back on. It's in the trunk and if you like I'll put it back on now". As long as he doesn't see all the dead hookers in the trunk I should be in the clear. :p:p:p:p:p

Good idea!

LOL! I remember those "dead hookers" were in E39, if you know what I'm talking about :D

Yeah, it's a white car so it doesn't even have to be spot on. I'm probably just going to end up painting them myself.

The other solution I had was using rare earth samarium cobalt magnets stuck to the inside of the bumper cover where they wont be seen. Then sticking magnets covered in felt to the back side of the plate. When I park on the street I could just stick it on and remove it later. The felt should stop any paint scratches from occurring.

No appreciation for classic tv. My guess is that Bo or Luke Duke (Dukes of Hazzard), Mike Brady (Brady Bunch), Fred Sanford (Sanford & Son), or Arnold and Willis Jackson (Different Strokes) don't ring a bell, either. Shame.

Yeah some do ring a bell - 'Nick at Nite' reruns after Nickelodeon stopped playing cartoons. I usually went to bed at that point. It was bedtime.

Yeah I'm a bit young for those shows but when I was a kid I loved watching I Love Lucy, Brady Bunch, I Dream of Jeannie, M*A*S*H and Happy Days. I think they were all played on Nick at Nite. Never did like Bewitched though for some reason.
