  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front license plate

Did this option work for you? I am not too concerned about it being motorized, I just want it to be as low profile as possible (2021 g70 3.3t Sport)
I haven't got it yet, it's out of stock for now. But the GV80 hasn't been delivered yet either, it is sitting at the dealers waiting for the hitch and brake controller to be installed, been sitting there for a week with no progress..

Take a look at page 7-141 of the owner's manual. If I'm reading this right, using the tow hitch or attaching to the lower grille will interfere with the ultrasonic sensors (if your trim has them). It looks like there are only two choices:
  1. Mount on the main front grille
  2. Don't mount a front plate and risk a fine if your state requires it

If I ever get the GV80 I plan on experimenting with installing it offset between the center and the #1 sensor depending on the width of the pattern. if that fails I'll go without and take my chances. My Tacoma had the front plate stole 3 years ago and it has never been stopped.

The very bottom grill not the main grill since my point was in trying to keep the main grill free. No matter what I did or how I adjusted it it set off the sensors. I ordered one from EOS that goes in the front tow hook. We will see how that works out. Not as attractive a placement as the sly bracket but anything to avoid using the genesis one that goes on the grill
Any update on how that front tow hook solution worked out for you? If it did, would you mind posting a picture and a link to the product?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico according to google are the only states that don't require a front license plate.

With the old vehicle bumper long gone, a manufacturer has to get creative to design a vehicle for states/countries that do require front plates. IMO, Genesis gets a C- for their solution. At least their bracket is centered. I think the worst solution is placement at the side (under the right headlight for example).

You’re missing part of the list...it doesn’t stop at New Mexico...you don’t need one here either:

  • North Carolina
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee

2019 G80 Sport - I used the tow hook solution, but it kept on interfering with my parking sensors and buzzing. I find the Sly one much better. Haven't had any false signals.

I grabbed my list from the internet. The internet is supposed to be right EXCEPT when it's wrong.

I’m in NY so need a front plate. Dealer put a bracket on the grill which looks terrible. Anyone have a solution to place it lower on the bumper? I know there are sensors etc but yuck on the grill kills the whole look.
I'm from California and I just took it out. I'll put it back if I get a ticket. The car looks 100 times better without iy.

Thanks, I was more interested in whether it worked out for the original poster who I thought also drives a GV80 (I may be misremembering). I believe the Sly solution hasn't worked well for other GV80 owners.

We went 8 months without any plates on our 2015 bought in 2018 CA then my wife got pulled over and a $25 fix it ticket later I finally caved in and installed the standard bracket which was in the trunk (by far the better place for it). The Genesis ultimate sedan still looks hot so I'm over it. The auto hiding plate reminds me of James Bond.

Front plates are optional in Ohio as of July 2020.

What will it take to do the same in New York? We just became the 15th state to legalize weed. But front plates are still a thing. Unbelievable.

The only real rationale I can see is for the rear-facing laser scanners on police cruisers. I am sending a letter to my state senator and assemblyman asking to introduce a bill in Albany to eliminate front plates citing mostly the state's cost savings for producing and distributing plates and several less compelling issues.

I wish you luck.

I think there was a bill here in CO last year to eliminate the front license plate, but was withdrawn. I doubt they'll ever go away here. A local Denver station published some facts about our plates... here's what they said about our front plate:

"... it's easier for law enforcement to catch lawbreaking people in cars with front license plates. And that's not just because of cameras. Plates in the front are mounted on bumpers, which usually break loose at the scene of a crash or leave an imprint after a hit and run.

Research done by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute also showed how the front license plate specifically impacted Colorado. E-470 Public Highway Authority tracks the number of tolls from license plates. The front plates alone accounted for $23.1 million in revenue in a year. According to E-470 staff, 34% of revenue might have been lost without the front plate."

I'll just continue to break the law until I break down and buy the tow-hook plate mount.

Now that pot is legal in NY give it a few months and maybe the legislators get high and repeal the front plate law.

So just to confirm. Absolutely no fix for this issue.
