Front license plate

I like the motorized plates, but not sure if a brand/model that fits the Genesis.

I just picked up a 2023 GV80 -live in NY -love the grille but hate where the plate gets installed. Had I known intitially I may not have purchased but anyway. I had the TEGO SUV version license plate retractor installed. Could not be installed dead center due to LiDAR sensors but even mounted off center right side it’s blocking sensor, and when I’m in the brake position, (eg at a red light, stop sign, etc), sensor goes off. What I love about the TEGO product is that it not only does it have the traditional fob, but also has an app which can control the retractor (both iOS and Android download available). The retractor does stick out just a bit where it’s mounted now, which I’m not crazy about as I’m OCD-ish about my cars. I was thinking of purchasing RHO V2 GV80 license plate relocator instead and so was looking on this forum for any possible reviews/feedback. Seemingly some front plate relocators have also caused sensor issues for some GV80 owners and not for others. Not sure if this may be as front sensor(s) placement might be different from previous model years. So from going thru this thread and others, rather than return the TEGO retractor- which they told me I could if I wasn’t happy with product- and was thinking of doing and buying a tow hook plate relocator, I’ve decided I’m going to reposition the license plate retractor dead center but keep the plate hidden while driving. Whenever I park somewhere I’ll have plate showing to avoid any kind of parking/no front plate ticket. Figure if I may have same issue with a tow hook relocator, I might as well keep what I have and chance it. Also full disclosure I am not PAID or receive any monetary compensation from TEGO, but will say they have awesome customer service.

I’m in NY so need a front plate. Dealer put a bracket on the grill which looks terrible. Anyone have a solution to place it lower on the bumper? I know there are sensors etc but yuck on the grill kills the whole look.
Highly recommend Sly Brackets no drill plate. Just installed mine a few days ago and looks so much better than the dealer installed front plate bracket. No issues with sensors where I placed mine.

Hello, I live in Texas and a front plate is required here too. I’ve never put a front plate on any of my cars. I’ve never been pulled over for lack of a front plate. I have been ticketed, but it’s because of a speeding violation or something. In that case. I just Velcro a license plate somewhere on the front of my car and take a picture of it. Only happened once or twice that I can recall. Each time the judge has dismissed the ticket.

Here are pics of my GV80 with Tego retractable front plate and pic of fob. The one I have is made specifically for SUV’s by Tego. I tried to show pics from the side to give an idea of what it looks like retracted - at first I was like “eh” not too thrilled to now I’m used to it and don’t even notice it anymore. Love that the full grille look remains intact. Everyone has their likes so it may not be for everyone - I saw other post where OP showed no drill Sly bracket.. looks really good and may be the choice for folks who may not want to deal with a retractable plate.

Bond, James Bond!

I have had the GV80 since July 2021.....took off the front plate/bracket and put it in the well in the trunk. Figure if I am stopped for not having a plate I will take it out and explain that the part is on order but needs to come from Korea.......looks so much better without the plate/bracket. And I am in a state that requires a front plate.

Hi,

I like the look of the sly bracket install. Did you have to install it upside down so it secured to the upper grill? Did you need a lever bracket? I’d appreciate your tips on how you got it to hang just above the sensor.

Thank you!

I did not have to install it upside down. I just used what was included in the package. There are holes along the left and right sides that allow you to move the holder up and down once you mount the bracket arms into the grille. I just installed it at the last possible openings on the bottom of the grill. I will attach more pictures from the top view and the sides to better explain.

The one I ordered is the Bozzmount MG 4 screw holder.

Thank you jtucca,
Additional pics would be gratefully received!
I like how you were able to lower the plate such that it basically straddles both sides of the grill’s lower border without affecting the front sensor…. it definitely is a much better look than place the plate 100% within the grill’s border! Best (most attractive) solution I’ve seen for a GV80 front plate mandate so far. The sly website makes one feel that the addition of their “leveler” product would be needed so plate also aligns perpendicular to the ground. Did you purchase that product as well? Again, thanks for sharing!
Job well done!

Sorry for the delay here. I'm glad you like the look of it! I did not purchase the leveler but it may not be a bad option as the plate does slant toward the ground a bit, but not at all noticeable from the front. You can only really tell if you look from the side, and even then its not too bad. I have attached photos showing side and top views of how I installed mine. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help if you are having issues when installing.

Here is also a clearer view from the side. The slant isn't too noticeable as is follows a similar downward slant to the front grille anyways.

Just what I needed to see!
It looks great and I agree, the slight slant in the front actually flows better with the angle of the front grille otherwise, if perpendicular, it would make the plate stand out more. I’m going to follow your example. Thanks for sharing! I believe those of us who live in front plate mandated states (and chose to comply) now have a “least offensive” option to work with on that beautiful front grille.

BTW: On the sky bracket website, I found a pic (attached) of another GV80 with front license plate mounted as you did. It’ll probably catch on.
Thanks again.
Cheers!

Any concerns of the plate scratching the front bumper? Thanks!

No not at all. It sticks out enough so that it doesn’t even touch the bumper.

Thank you for posting this! I purchased and installed the Sly Bracket tonight and it looks so much better than inside the grill. It was either this or keep the front plate off completely.

Looks great! Hoping to see more and more GV80s with this bracket. I cringe everytime I see the grill mounted plate.

I installed a tow hook bracket today. It does not interfere with the sensors. Here are pics of it.
